George and Anne Waldman of
Oak Park recently celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary
at Dimitri's in Southfield.
The couple was married in De-
troit on Dec. 9, 1934, at the Hol-
brook Synagogue. Their children
are: Beverly and Hyman Deal of
Oak Park, Arlene Weinberger of
Southfield and Marshall and Ann
Waldman of Vancouver, Wash.
The senior Waldmans have eight
grandchildren, Barbara, Robert
and Denise Deal; Leonard, Linda
and Bruce Weinberger; and David
and Lisa Waldman.
The senior Waldman is semi-
retired from the restaurant and
delicatessen business. Mrs.
Waldman is an avid knitter.
The senior Waldmans are
members of Cong. B'nai Moshe.
65th Anniversary
Herman and Mollie Hoffenberg
of Oak Park celebrated their 65th
wedding anniversary this week.
The Hoffenbergs were married
at the old Cong. Shaarey Zedek
building on Willis St.
Hoffenberg was born and raised
in Chicago and his wife was raised
in Detroit and attended Bishop
School.
They were formerly affiliated
with Cong. B'nai David and its
sisterhood and men's club.
Their children are Mrs. Andrew
(Eleanor) Winston of Tucson,
Ariz., and Mrs. George (Bebe)
Kantor of Oak Park. The Hoffen-
bergs have six grandchildren and
ten great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Max Weine Honored
On Upcoming Retirement
Rabbi Max Weine will be hon-
ored by the Midrasha, College of
Jewish Studies, upon the occasion
of his retirement. Rabbi Weine
served as professor from 1972 to
1984 at the Midrasha.
His retirement will be marked
with a special convocation on
March 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Cong.
Beth Achim.
Dr. Daniel Elazar, professor of
intergovernmental relations and
head of the Institute of Local Gov-
ernment at Bar-Ilan University
in Israel, will be the guest lec-
turer. His topic will be "Kinship
and Consent — The Bonds of the
Jewish Community."
Rabbi Weine is a graduate of
the first United Hebrew Schools
class in 1923. He continued his
education at Wayne State Uni-
versity, where he received his
B.A. degree. He was ordained as a
rabbi at the Jewish Theological
Seminary and received his M.A.
and Doctor of Hebrew Literature
degrees from Columbia Univer-
sity.
Dr. Weine has served as a rabbi
in Los Angeles, Vermont and New
Jersey. He has contributed many
