chance to identify with Jewish
life."
In assessing his own visit to
Germany, Rabbi Arm said, "In
seven days one doesn't become
an expert on a country. But
what one does get is an oppor-
tunity to see a community and
some idea of how that commu-
nity functions.
"It was a chance to be
enlightened, to see how Ger-
man Jews view themselves
within the context of the
larger German community. I
think most of them feel that
there can never again be
600,000 Jews in Germany, but
that doesn't mean they cannot
have a meaningful Jewish
existence."

Golan Heights
intruder killed

Tel Aviv (JTA) - A man in a
Syrian army uniform was killed
in an exchange of fire with Israeli
troops in the Golan Heights early
Saturday morning. He was wear-
ing athletic shoes instead of army
boots and had fired on a car.
Military sources said the inci-
dent was an isolated one and did
not indicate a renewal of hos-
tilities by the Syrian army. Some
sources suggested that the man
may have been on an
intelligence-gathering reconnias-
sance mission.
Prior to the shooting a gap was
discovered in the border fence
with tracks leading toward the
Syrian-held zone of the heights.
Jewish settlements were put on
_ special alert and the settlers were
ordered to remain indoors while
soldiers searched the area.
When a patrol came upon the
uniformed man and ordered him
to halt, he opened fire instead. He
was gunned down by return fire.
