Israel Congregation, represented
Washtenaw County Jewry on the
state Anti-Defamation League
board, and has been a long-time
member of B'nai B'rith.
Born in Pennsylvania, Mrs.
Bernstein attended Johns Hop-
kins and Pennsylvania State
Universities. She earned a B.Ed.
degree and has held the positions
of teacher in the cultural arts pro-
gram of the Ann Arbor Recreation
Department and the Beth Israel
Sunday School. She was a substi-
tute teacher for the Ann Arbor
Public Schools and taught
English and citizenship classes
for the Soviet Jewry Absorption
Committee, which she helped
found.
Mrs. Bernstein worked as a cos-
tumer for Junior Theater for more
than 12 years. She is editor of the
Washtenaw Jewish News, a posi-
tion she has held for many years.
She is also a resource person for
the Jewish Information "hotline."
She has served on the religious

and education committee of Beth
Israel and helped establish the
Beth Israel Nursery School. She
was the long-time Hadassah
representative to the Washtenaw
Jewish Community Council,
served Hadassah in many other
capacities, and volunteered her
services in the Planned Par-
enthood program and at the
Breast 4ancer Detection Clinic.
In addition to the Bernsteins'
individual communal interests,
they share interest and support of
Life Line for the Old in
Jerusalem, Israel, the United
Jewish Appeal, the United Fund,
Red Cross, Salvation Army, Peace
Neighborhood; and the
Washtenaw County Committee
for Ethiopian Jews. They are
active in the on-going Israel Bond
program as event sponsors, com-
mittee members and Bond pur-
chasers.

Sandor and Laszlo Slomovits rehearse for their forthcoming concert at
Young Israel of Oak-Woods.

Mizrachi Hapoel-Hamizrachi,
the Religious Zionists of Greater
Detroit, will hold a concert at
Young Israel of Oak-Woods on
Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. The concert will
feature "Gemini." The duo, com-
prised of twins Sandor and Laszlo
Slomovits, will draw on their ex-
periences in Israel and Europe to
present an evening of Hebrew and

Yiddish songs.
Proceeds from the concert will
go to support B'nai Akiva youth
activities and for the summer
camp scholarship program.
Tickets will be available at the
door. The concert will be followed
by an afterglow. For information

P'TACH slates concerts

The Neshama Orchestra and
Singers will entertain at the
fourth annual melave and malka
and concert of P'TACH (Parents
for Torah for All Children) at 8
p.m. Saturday at the Michigan
Inn. There is an admission
charge.
A special children's concert will
take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at
Young Israel of Oak-Woods.
There is a nominal admission
charge.
Founded in 1982 in Toronto, the
group performs in the Chasidic
style. It entertains for Jewish
schools and organizations in
Canada and in the U.S.
The Neshama Orchestra was
founded by Dovid Kerzner and

Yisroel Idels. Idels performed
throughout Israel on trumpet
with his own group and in other
groups. He performed at kibbut-
zim, yeshivot, border towns and
army bases. He also appeared on
Israeli TV, radio and in film.
Kerzner played drums with
many New York groups while a
yeshivah student. He played for
youth organizations and with
many groups. Guest violinist is
Harvey Tishcoff, who has experi-
ence in the recording industry, TV
and radio, as well as with sym-
phonies all over Canada.
