SERVING COMPLETE GREEK CUISINE

egulars . . . George Young, com-
mercial talent and comedian,
rattling off jokes plus bringing
sign he made for Jack, "Open
nder New Management" .. .
Sharon Reed and Jim McCachren,
owners of the growing-in-
popularity Bloomfield Facial Re-
newal skin-care salon . . . Ken
Beattie, Mary's hubby, tending
bar . . . Robert Nichols, gent who
contributed all those cases of
Toste Asti champagne to Detroit
igers for playoff and World
Series celebrations.
You can expect big things from
Jack McCarthy's Restaurant .. .
this is certainly one guy every-
body likes . . . Don't expect mira-
les overnight . . . but you'll con-
stantly see changes . . . always for
he better.
Don't forget . . . Jack and Carol
ought the land and a free-
standing building . . . a very keen
ense of pride will dictate nothing
but the best of their customers.
FORGET WHATEVER
rumors you might have heard
that Jacque's on Telegraph will
close . Owner Jim Thompson
tans it utterly ridiculous.
Recent luncheon there was so
packed, valet parkers had to stop
taking cars . . . it was an auto
owners nightmare outside .. .
cars coming from all directions,
stupid people leaving their cars on
a slant and just going in . . . Cop
came and write down plenty of
license numbers for court invites.
Getting in was a celebration by
- itself . . . but a holiday party had
John Finck, Michigan Opera;
ibil Little, Oakland Press; Leah
Marks, fashion show producer;
hirlee Iden, Southfield Eccen-
tric; Tamara Friedman, Tamara's
nstitute de Beaute; Marilyn Zack
and Jane Keliman.
John is here four years from
Copenhagen . . . coming as prod-
ction manager . . . Year later he
was put in charge of marketing
nd public relations.
Leah's next fashion show is set
• r May at Knollwood Country
Club . . . She's jetting to Califor-
ia for ideas and moviedom get-
togethers in preparation for her
etroit Institute of Arts show,
slated to be the biggest and best
ever . . . It'll be a knockout
Broadway and Hollywood combo.
Our waitresses were the kind
that make you love going out .. .
Molly Del Guidice, with her pre-
tty smile, couldn't be more effi-
cient or personable . . . Marie
Lilly brings noddng smiles of ap-
proval.
Lunch at Jacques was a delici-
ous dish . . . Poulette Framboise
. . . sauteed chicken breast with
raspberry vinegar, cream and
served on noodles, with separate
spears of asparagus.
When we came out of Jacque's,
the same valet parker who virtu-
.11y told us to put our car in the
lake or somewhere, was all eager
beaver to get the auto . . . if we had
found a. parking spot nearby .. .
he pressure was off . . . Heck,
most parkers of yesteryears coped
with a lot more pressure than
these kids do . . . and never let it
other them . . . You could trust
your car with those guys because
they didn't screechingly race au-
tos.

LEFT OUT NAMES of Ilana
and Sam Karp . . . also in our
party at Excalibur Restaurant on
Northwestern . . . Congrats to
Ilana on her birthday.
85 PEOPLE enjoyed the fine
piano recital of talented Zelda
Keil at Oak Park Library . . . with
standing ovation for her rendi-
tions of Ravel, Prokofiev and
Chopin.
BUNNY BEYER of McFrock's,
downstairs of Roman Terrace, 12
Mile and Orchard Lake Rd., was
recently named "Detroit's Favo-
rite Bartender" in contest by
American Lung Association of
Southeastern Michigan . . . She
raised $4,010 for ALSEM as her
customers paid $1 a vote in No-
vember balloting.
UNLESS YOU LIVE or work
in the area, Manny's Deli Restau-
rant, Nine Mile Rd., next to
Kresge's, just west of Woodward,
could be considered as being off
the beaten path . . . But one thing
still holds true . . . that this place
with its big yellow awning ex-
tending out might very well be the
best little delicatessen restaurant
of its size in the Midwest . . . if not
anywhere.
This is a big statement, but con-
sider that owners Manny and
Christine Farao, with their seat-
ing for only 29 people in four
booths, four two-top tables, and
seven counter seats, own a delica-
tessen restaurant that covets an
almost unbelievable 96 percent
mark of cleanliness from the city's
health department . . . serves the
highest quality food that can be
purchased . . . makes soups with
all fresh vegetables, no
preservatives, no artificial color-.
ing or flavoring and no salt .. .
and is many times called 'The lit-
tle delicatessen-resturant with a
-touch of gourmet cooking" .. .
with lunch items like Chicken a la
Casadora, V2 lb. boneless, skinless
char-broiled chicken breast,
served open-faced on Jewish rye
with Manny's special sauce
(sauteed onions, mushrooms,
green peppers and tomatoes in
white wine and his own herbs and
spices) . . . Old Fashion Beef Stew
with beef marinated in white
wine . . . Chicken A La Cristo Rey
(an excellent petite diet delight),
1 /2 lb. skinless, boneless char-
broiled chicken breast, served on
an Italian bun with Manny's
homemade BBQ sauce, etc.
Manny's Deli is also "Home of
the Belly Buster" . . . 1/2 lb. corned
beef and pastrami on onion roll or
1 /2 lb. pastrami and salami on
onion roll . . . There are almost
half as many salads as there are
seats in the place, 13 . . . plus 18
single-decker sandwiches, 14
combinations, 11 super trible de-
ckers, six burger sandwiches, 1 /3 or
1 /2 lb. each . . . 14 different types of
hot dog sandwiches, including the
famous Floogie Dog, Mayor Dog
and Portuguese Choriso
(homemade sausage on French
bun) . . . and a box on the menu
that says, "If you do not see what
you like, ask for it and we will
gladly prepare it."
Jan. 11 will be the third an-
niversary of Manny's Deli Res-
taurant . . . and still no cutting
corners . . . regardless of how
