Manny and Ester Levitsky
Rabbi who furthered human rights
in Argentina due at Adat Shalom
,
Rabbi Marshall Meyer, re-
cently returned to the United
States after 25 years in Argen-
tina, will give a first-hand report,
"An American Rabbi's Experi-
ence in Latin America," on Satur-
day, at 8 p.m. at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. Rabbi Meyer's talk is
open to the public at no charge.
Meyer has come to interna-
tional attention for his activities
on behalf of human rights during
the repressive regimes in Argen-
tina. Recipient of many awards
for outstanding achievements in
the service of humanity, he is the
only American and only Jew on
the Argentinian Commission in-
vestigating "outrages" of the prior
government.
Rabbi Meyer founded a syna-
gogue in Buenos Aires which he
built from 30 to more than 1,000
families, a system of religious
education which includes a day
school and a rabbinical seminary,
and a Camp Ramah and youth
movement.
Rabbi Meyer, newly appointed
vice president of the University of
Judaism in Los Angeles, will be
the keynote speaker for the first
city-wide Jewish Youth Jam-
boree, which will take place today
and Saturday. This event is co-
sponsored by Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue, United Synagogue Youth,
Union of American Hebrew Con-
gregations, B'nai B'rith Youth
Organizations and Hillel Founda-
tions of Wayne University, Uni-
versity of Michigan and Michigan
State University, and the Jewish
Community Council of Metropoli-
tan Detroit.
The public lecture, followed by
questions and answers, is under
the auspices of the Adult Study
Commission of Adat Shalom Syn-
agogue, Jonathan and Sandra
Jaffa, co-chairmen.

Young Israel of Oak-Woods will
honor Mr. and Mrs. Manuel
Levitsky at a pre-Chanukah ban-
quet to be held in Stollman Hall
on Dec. 9 at 6 p.m.
I. L. Kenen, founder of the
American Israel Public Affairs
Committee and the Middle East
Report will be the guest speaker.
The committee in charge of this
event includes: Rabbi Ernest
Greenfield and Mrs. Fayga Dom-
bey, co-chairmen; Menachem
Landau, Alice Mandelbaum,
Sonia Ribiat, David Tanzman and
