Vlerkaz readies for Melave Malka

The Merkaz, the Layman's
kssociation of the Council of Or-
thodox Rabbis, will hold its fourth
innual melave malka, Dec. 1 at 8
I D.m. at Young Israel of Oak
Aroods, 2406 . 1 Coolidge, Oak
ark. The guest speaker will be
R,abbi Schulem Rubin, president
the National Council of Young
'9rae1 Rabbis and the director of
posher law enforcement for the
;tate of New York.
Rabbi Rubin has traveled
widely in the United States and
as been instrumental in getting
as hr uth legislation "on the
Dooks" in many states. His topic
i11 be "Kashruth— The Law and
'2onsumer Rights" or "How to
Keep the Kashruth Industry
Kosher." A full dinner will be
served. There is a fee.
The merkaz has gained a repu-
tation as one of the foremost
kosher consumer's organizations
a the country. One of its major
'successes has been the Kosher-
Gram which has evolved in the
'past six years from a small local
'newsletter into a national
monthly consumer kashruth
guide with over 10,000 subscrib-
'qrs. It is also reprinted with per-

gogues and educational organiza-
tions as a special service to their
respective memberships. It is es-
timated that total readership is
50,000.
The merkaz also has a commu-
nity education division which of-
fers films, lectures and informa-
tional pamphlets on other areas of
concern for the kosher consumer
such as Kashering the Home,
Mezuzah, Shatnes, etc. For more
