Secular Humanist
Jews will convene

Coalition Day will be observed
by the Michigan Coalition of Sec-
ular and Humanistic Jews on Dec.
1 at the Birmingham Temple.
Constituent organizations are
the Jewish Parents Institute,
Workmen's Circle, the Sholem
Aleichem Institute and the tem-
ple.
The day will begin with regis-
tration at 9 a.m. followed at 9:30
a.m by a keynote address by Rabbi
Sherwin T. Wine on "Secular
Humanistic Judaism — Past and
Future." Geraldine Revzin, direc-
tor, Congress of Secular Jewish
Organizations, will speak on
"Secular Humanistic Judaism —
The Past" at 10 a.m. Ed Shifrin
will be the respondent and discus-
sion will follow.
At the noon luncheon, MCSHJ
leadership awards will be pre-
sented to Irwin Shaw, Harold
Gales and Mike Zeltzer.
Following the luncheon,
Miriam Jerris, executive director,
Society for Humanistic Judaism,
will speak on "Secular Humanis-
tic Judaism — The Future" at 1
p.m. Julius Harwood will be the
respondent, and discussion will
follow.
The final talk of the day will be
delivered at 3 p.m. by Zev Katz,
Hebrew University, co-founder,
Israel Association for Secular
Humanistic Judaism. His topic
will be "Secular Humanistic
Judaism in Israel."
There is an admission charge,
and the public is invited. For de-

Philosophy society
will present author

The Detroit Philosophical
Society will feature Marilyn Be-
tman, author of Heart Shaped
Earth, at its monthly meeting on
Thursday at 8 p.m. at Kingsley
Inn.
Miss Betman will speak on
"Metacommunication: Close
Encounters of the Unconscious
Mind."
Dinner and cocktails will be
served at 6:30 p.m. For reserva-

Registration has begun for the
winter programs. There is a
Winter Week program for girls
and boys in second through eighth
grades at Camp Maas. Campers
are housed by age group in win-
terized cabins for tobogganing, ice
skating, ice fishing, pioneer
skills, cross-country skiing and
winter cook-outs.
A Winter Week at Camp Ken-
nedy in the Upper Peninsula is
offered to teens entering tenth,
11th and 12th grades. This pro-
gram allows participants to mas-
ter cross-country and winter
camping techniques and is high-
lighted by an overnight excursion
to Lake Superior on skis.
