to cut down on the number in
the U.S. but make the overall
process more efficient. There
are presently 20 shlichim in
this country, "but five or six of
them are at 515 Park Avenue"
(headquarters in New York of
the American section) of the
World Zionist Organization),
and that is a waste of talent, he
says. "We have had an image
problem with shlichim, and
I've found that the best are na-
tives of the country they are
serving."
Aron would like to make
more use of computers to
handle some of the work
shlichim have now. "We'd like
our shlichim to do more of the
promotional work and less
processing."
Chaim Aron says he doesn't
get frustrated from his job.
"Frustration is when you can't
find a solution to a problem,"
he says. But we're working on
new solutions. I've never set
numerical goals for aliyah —
that would be frustrating. My
job is to create new infrastruc-
tures, a new dialogue, and
offer up the challenge to the
Jewish people."

Plea for education

Middletown, N.Y. (JTA) —
Life-long Zionist activist Dr.
Mordecai Hacohen, who received
the Myrtle Wreath Award from
the Lower New York Region of
Hadassah here last week, urged
that every Jewish child in
America be assured of a Jewish
education, "even free of charge,
whenever necessary."
