New York (JTA) — Vandals
painted seven swastikas on the
outside walls of a Queens
synagogue last week, as well as on
two parked cars near the building.
The swastikas were smeared on
Temple Israel in the Hollis section
of Queens only hours after the
New York Police Deparment
warned city synagogues to be
alert for possible acts of van-
dalism against them.
The police issued the warning
after receiving threats that such
vandalism might occur to mark
the Nov. 8 anniversary of"Crystal
Night," in which Jewish owned
property and synagogues
throughout Germany were de-
stroyed by the Nazis in 1938.

New York (JTA) — A New York
State appeals court has upheld
the right of a Jewish day school to
hold Sunday classes which a local
zoning board had refused to allow,
according to the National Jewish
Commission on Law and Public
Affairs (COLPA)
The right of the North Shore
Hebrew Academy, in Kings Point,
N.Y. to hold Sunday classes was
sustained last week in a ruling by
the Appellate Division of the
State Supreme Court.
