DAVID MENDELSON was in
the right place at right time .. .
Son of Phyllis and Herb Mendel-
son, he recently ushered at wed-
ding when one of the grand-
mothers had a heart attack about
an hour before ceremonial pro-
ceedings . . . In orthopedic resi-
dency at Mt. Carmel Hospital,
David gave C.P.R. (cardio-
pulmonary resuscitation) . . . and
saved her life.
CONGRATS . . . to former De-
troiters Harry and Julia
Goldsmith, now living in Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla. . . . on their 60th
anniversary . . . to Sadie and Mort
Dermer . . . on their 50th anniver-
sary . . . to Dorothy and Reuben:
Sherman . . . on their 43rd an-
niversary.
DR. HAROLD ROLAND of
Ronald Optics, Applegate Square,
was recently on the Mark Scott
Show, WXYT Radio, answering
questions for an hour about con-
tact lenses . . . Recent introduc-
tion of mono vision for bifocal
patients and tinted soft-lenses
have given a huge increase of
interest in contact lenses.
Harold has been in practice 45
years . . . He and wife Les Lee, are
now in France and England to
study the latest developments
there in contact lenses . . . plus
attending a threelday_showing of
fashion frames in Paris . . . Les
Lee is more than just a good wife
. . . She's also Harold's buyer and
fashion consultant.

Dr. Robert Brent and Dad is Dr.
Morris Brent.
IN THE EARLY 1900s,
Boesky brothers, Max, Alex and
Samuel, came to the United
States from Yekaterinoslav, Rus-
sia . . . settling in Detroit .. .
From that time on, the brothers
and their families grew and
flourished, multiplying in num-
bers . . . In 1941, the first and only
family, reunion was held . . . Now,
43 years later, a second Boesky
Family Reunion will take place
. . . this Sunday, 12:30 p.m. . . . at
Meating Place Restaurant on Or-
chard Lake Road.
A family tree has been charted
by Susan Barr of all the branches
and includes people from
endeavors like restaurant own-
ers, arbitrager, public relations,
teachers, doctors, lawyers, ac-
countants, sales and the arts .. .
Those interested in meeting and
greeting their Boesky family
members, should contact Shelly
Sher Newman, 851-6034, or

birthdays.
WHY WAS JAY ROBERTS
and his "Nightflight" program on
WJR Radio shifted from 11:30
p.m. to 1 a.m. . . . after 25 years of
great listening? . . . The David
Newman Talk Show is a good one,
but should be put in an earlier
time slot.
Jay's "Nightflight" is much too
popular . . . and notable . . . to be
shoved into the 1 a.m. segment .. .
Many of his loyal listeners aren't
up that late . . . Jay and his show
have become somewhat of a tradi-
tion . . . so much so that listeners
are up in arms about the move.
GET WELL WISHES . . . to
Lillian Spoon and to Rita Lipsky.
MAIL DEPT. . . . "My sister
and I are former Detroiters. We
now live in Brooklyn, N.Y. She
subscribes to The Jewish News,
and many times gives these pap-
ers to me.
"Since I am living in New York
City since 1948, most of the names
in The Jewish News are strange to
me. I was pleaSantly surprised to
read the letter in your column by
Harry J. Gunsberg. In January
1928, I graduated froth College
High on Cass and Warren. In fact,
I was a student in that old build-
ing all during my high school
years and all during my college
years.
"I used to have a picture of our
graduating class — I don't have it
anymore. Somehow it got lost. I
presume Mr. Gunsberg is plan-
ning a reunion. When I went to
College High my name was Sadie
Finkelstein."

LOOKING BACK .. .
Sept. 8, 1967 . . . "Susan
Glicksman, former Detroiter, was
the beautiful girl who placed
fourth in recent Miss Universe
Contest seen over TV . . . Susan
was Miss Los Angeles, and is the
daughter of ex-localites Harold
and Eve Glicksman, now living in
California."
Oct. 6, 1967 . . . "Big news of
Twyckingham subdivision in
Southfield is the hook and ladder
fire truck owned by Dave Herme-
lin and Gil Silverman . . . The big
red fire fighter is of the '30s vin-
tage and once owned by the Pon-
tiac Fire Dept. . . . It's the pride of
the neighborhood . . . especially
the kids, who take much glee in
rides given them up and down the
street by Dave and Gil . . . Im-
agine the sensation Dave caused
recently when he brought it to
Cong. Shaarey Zedek to pick up
his youngsters, plus other kids in
the driving group . . . His 2-year-
old son, Brian, is the mascot .. .
Gil recently took the fire truck out
to Roeper City and Country Day
School where his 3-year-old son,
Eric, became a hero as 20
youngsters went for the ride of
their little lives."
HOUSEHOLD HINTS . . . Ink
spots are among the hardest to
remove . . . but here's a fast way to
get it done ... Simply spray a lit-
tle hair spray, and brush lightly
with a new, firm toothbrush be-
fore washing the garment in your
usual way.
