Histadrut drive to benefit Israel
social services in wake of cuts

Goldie Eskin, Histadrut
regional executive director, an-
nounced that the National Com-
mittee for Labor Israel (including
its Detroit affiliate), which raises
funds in the United States for the
health, educational and social
welfare programs of the Histadrut
in Israel, has embarked on an
emergency campaign to provide a
steady flow of funds so that Kupat
Holim, Israel's major health net-
work; Mishan, the agency for the
aged and troubled youth and
Amal, Histadrut's vast educa-
tional network will not have to
reduce their existing programs
because of government budget
cuts.
Parlor meetings will be or-
ganized in various homes to focus
on any of the branches — Kupat
Holim, Mishan or Amal — or
specific projects at the various in-
stitutions. Special meetings will
be held under trade union au-
spices to urge international
unions and their locals to partici-
pate in this drive.
Local telephone banks will be
set up, manned by volunteers for
intensive telephone solicitation
supporting this emergency. On a
national level, a public relations
campaign will be initiated.
At the opening meeting of the
Israel Histadrut Campaign of

Metropolitan Detroit, the follow-
ing officers were elected for the
1984-1985 campaign: Morris
Lieberman, campaign chairman;
Isadore Shrodeck, executive vice
chairman; Alex Blumenberg, co-
treasurer, Abram Medow, co-
treasurer and Dena Greenberg,
secretary.
Volunteers are needed. To vol-
unteer, call the Histadrut office,
967-4720.
