And while they share their
peers' social values and economic
interests, Jewish students were
found to be the least religious of
all groups, according to the study,
with 22 percent saying they have
no religious involvement at all.

The study is based on a com-
parison of findings derived from a
questonnaire circulated in 1980
by the National Center of Educa-
tion and Statistics, which sam-
pled a total of 58,270 sophomores
and seniors, 1;072 of them iden-
tified as Jews.

New York -- Jewish high
school students have much higher
educational and career goals than
their non-Jewish peers, according
to a study released by the Ameri-
can Jewish Committee's William
Petschek National Jewish Family
Center.

The report, titled "American
Jewish High School Students -- A
National Profile" and written by
sociologist James L. Peterson and
psychologist Nicholas. Zill of
Washington, D.C., is the first na-
tional survey compiled on Jewish
high school students, according to
Yehuda Rosenman, director of the
William Petschek Center.

Jerusalem (ZINS) — According
to a report by "the Ministry of Reli-
gion, there are approximately 30
instances each year of Israel Jews
who convert to other religions.
There is no way of knowing how
many cases of conversion are not
reported.
In 1983 there were 23 conver-
sions, all of them made by women.
Twenty of them became Moslems
and three became Christians.
Most of these conversions are tied
to mixed marriages.
In 1983 there were six Moslems,
45 Christians, three Druze and 11
of varied faiths who converted to
other religions. Thirteen of them
adopted Judaism. In 1982, 27 Is-
raeli Jews formally abandoned
their faith.
According to a report by Rabbi
Moshe Porush, who is an activist
in combatting missionary activi-
ties in Israel, there are now about
2,000 apostates in the Jewish
state. Furthermore, he said, most
of them earn their livelihood in
missionary activities.
