Jewish Association for Retarded Citizens kicked off its fall fund-raising
campaign at a ticket seller rally Sept. 9 at Temple Emanu-El. The rally
was to address invitations to the JARC's annual fund-raising event which
this year will be a concert by entertainer Ben Vereen, who will appear at 8
p.m. Nov. 1 at Ford Auditorium. Pictured at the rally are, from left:

Feldman, fund-raising chairman; and Harriet Gelfond, co-chairman.
Proceeds from the November concert will support JARC's residential
services to mentally retarded men and women.
ADL re-elects Peter Alter as head
Peter M. Alter was unanim-
ously re-elected president of the
Michigan Regional Advisory
Board of the Anti-Defamatioan
League of B'nai B'rith at that
group's annual meeting.
Elected with Alter were: Robert
J. Gordon, Deena Lockman,
Stuart Lockman, George Nyman,
and Laurence A. Miller, vice
presidents, Betty Goodman of
Lansing, outstate vice president;
David Wallace, secretary; and
Bunny Goldman, treasurer.
The board's standing commit-
tees for the coming year will be
law, schools, Middle East, cam-
pus, media, interreligious affairs,
legislative affairs, speakers
bureau, gender-related issues,
leadership development, public
relations, fund raising.
Marsha Miro of the Detroit Free
Press and Bob Pisor of WDIV-TV
were selected for ADL's Medallion
Of Appreciation for "outstanding
journalistic coverage" of the
"Jewish Life In America . ." ex-
hibit which appeared at the De-
troit Historical Museum in April.
The same award was accorded the
Detroit Jewish News.
The Michigan region will have

the next fund-raising party as
part of its supplemental fund-
raising campaign at 8 p.m. Mon-
day in the home of Nancy and
Joseph Jacobson, 885 Char-
rington Rd., Birmingham.
Rev. John Stanley Grauel,
author, minister and crew
member of the S.S. Exodus, will
speak on "The Need to Fund the
ADL's Efforts in Interpret Israel
and Combat anti-Semitism."
Jewish Center dance classes
still accepting students at branch
Students are still being ac-
cepted into the dance classes
taught by Harriet Berg and Bar-
bara Rinaldo at the Jewish Com-
munity Center Jimmy Prentis
Morris Branch.
Classes meet at 10 a.m. Mon-
days for experienced adults; 4:30
p.m. Tuesday for experienced
children, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for
beginners age 9-11 and 5:15 p.m.
Thursdays for experienced dan-
cers age 9-13.
Mrs. Berg has headed the Cen-
ter dance department for 25 years.
She studied ballet with Theodore
Smith and contemporary dance
with Martha Graham, Jose Li-
mon, Merce Cunningham and
Alvin Ailey.
Ms. Rinaldo has just returned
from serving as an artist-in-
residence in Kansas. Previously
she taught at Hamilton College in
New York. She studied ballet
with Sandra Severo and holds
