Argentine Jews
seek Nazi
extradition
Buenos Aires (JTA) , —
During the official visit of
West German Chancellor
Helmut Kohl to Argentina
earlier this month _ , he was
handed a letter from the
Argentine Jewish commu-
nity urging that his gov-
ernment "request, in a for-
mal peremptory mapner"
the extradition of Nazi war
criminals residing in
Argentina and the other
countries of Latin America,
the World Jewish Congress
disclosed-last week.
The letter, written in the
name of the DAIA, the
representative body of
Argentine Jewry and the
WJC affiliate here, re-
minded Kohl of Germany's
"ethical and political im-
peratives with regard to the
Jewish people" as a conse-
quence of the Holocaust.-
The extradition of Nazi war
criminals would be "strictly
a matter of justice and
would prevent similar in-
famous crimes,"" the letter
said.
Meat dealer
is suspect
New York (JTA) — A task
force of the federal. Depart-
ment of Agriculture and the
state kosher law enforce-
ment division is collecting
evidence against the owner
of a multi-million dollar
wholesale firm supplying
kosher and non-kosher
meat in the Catskill resort
area in the belief that the
owner has been selling
non-kosher meat as kosher
to many hotels in that area.
Sources who asked not to
be quoted by name said the
New York State Depart-
ment of Agriculture and
Markets, parent agency of
the kosher law- enforcement
division, had seized more
than 1,000 pounds of sus-
pect meat at the wholesale
factory in Woodridge, N.Y.
The sources said that the
confiscated meat would be
part of the evidence against
the wholesaler.
