to create wedding service
A number of cantors from
the Detroit area and
elsewhere have commis-
sioned local composer, Dr...
Sholom Kalib, to compose a
new wedding service.
The, service which has
been sponsored by 20
synagogues throughout the
United States and Canada,
contains processional
marches, songs to the bride
and new settings for the
traditional liturgical por-
tions such as the seven*
blessings ,(Sheva Brachot),
the Mi Adir and Prieitly
Benediction (Y'varechicha).
The service is scored for
cantor, with piano, cello ac-
companiment and optional
harp. A number of selec-
tions such as "V'eirastich
Li" (I Will Betroth Thee),
"Set .Me. As A Seal". and
"Ana . Dodi," are already
being performed at wed-
dings throughout the coun-
try.

Community Center of Met-
ropolitan Detroit, it , was

Brown served as the center

U-M promotes Dr. Bolkosky
Dr. Sholom Kalib

musical style of Yiddish
folksongs, and flavor of
modern Israeli song. One of
the bridal marches was
composed by Dr. Kalib as an
alternative to the widely
used Bridal Mach from
Lohengrin, by Richard
Wagner. ,
Dr. Sidney .Bolkosky of
Oak Park has been prom-
oted from associate to full
professor, with tenure, at
the University of
Michigan-Dearborn.
As a faculty member in
history, Dr. Bolskosky has
, been honored "for distin-
guished teaching." He has
published a book, titled The
Distorted Image: German
Jewish Perceptions of Ger-
mans and Germany.
Dr..Bolkosky is coordinat-
ing and directing the
Holocaust survivor oral his-
tory project for the
Holocaust Memorial Center
in West Bloomfield. He also
lectures extensively on the
Holocaust before Jewish
and church audiences.
Dr. Bolkosky chairs the
cultural events committee
on campus. He has obtained
two Michigan Council for
the Humanities grants. In
addition; he has been the
major force behind a new
honors program in the Col-
lege of Arts, Sciences and
Letters, a program he di-
rects.
