Pine Hills another chance
. . . don't think you'll be
sorry.
BALLROOMS OF
Michigan Inn were taken
over recently for a "Client
Appreciation Party" . . . but
it served also to show what
could be done . . . Five food
islands . . . shrimp and crab
legs on mounds of ice at one
. . . sliced tenderloin, sliced
lox at another . . . chicken
sauteed in oyster sauce at a
third . . . scallops fettucini
prepared in skillets too
small . . . and oodles' of lu-
scious Michigan Inn-made
pastries . . . Plenty of
Spanish coffee and drinks
galore at a separate bar sta-
tion . . . Prospective party-
givers could be nothing but
impressed.
Folks went among the
crowd doing tricks . . . and a
clever illusionist followed
the thank-you remarks by
General Manager Tom
Fitzgibbons by cutting a gal
(his wife) in "three pieces"
. : . putting center of her
away from rest of body.
WALKING. INTO THE
Pickle Barrel now, Ever-
green and 12 Mile, one
would never think it was a
delicatessen . . . The
newly-remodeled look, de-
signed by Stephen Mitchell,
with layout by Jack Baiter
and work contracted by
Jack, co-owner with Al
Winkler, looks and is also so
much bigger than before .. .
The delicatessen semblance
is gone ... except for pickle
barrels still on tables and a
carry-out case . . . In its
stead is an airy, modernistic
restaurant . . . seating 180
from the former 156.
The booths are all new,
including six additional
ones on a level up . . . and
entire settee is along the
walls for large parties in
Pickle Barrel's second room,
which was also redone .. .
Padded chairs, with brass
backs, at tables, match the
vinyl upholstery and
wallpaper.
Entire color scheme is
black, gold and beige .. .
There's a new tiled floor in
the foyer and carry-out sec-
tion . . . large recessed-
lighting panels over the
counter . . . and a huge,
modernistic "Pickle Barrel"
in brass letters has taken
the street scene place on a
wall as you enter the main
dining room . . . Lighting
galore now . . . new chan-
deliers and a look of sum-
mery daylight.
Pickle Barrel is divided
into three sectors now ...
&dm area by the large•win-
"dows with its four-booths
. . . middle dining region
with step-up six-booths and
tables in the middle . . . and
third area with long, walled
settee.
Waitresses now wear
black pants and beige shirt.
While Pickle Barrel was
closed for the remodeling,
.which took seven weeks in-
stead of three, a second res-
taurant by same name
.Apen,ed with .a bang out
