UAHC to honor Rabbi Fram
at Temple Israel services
Rabbi Leon Fram, found-
ing rabbi of Temple Israel,
will be honored at services
on July 13 at 8 p.m.
Rabbi Fram will receive a
citation from the Union of
American Hebrew Congre-
gations, naming him hon.-
orary chairman of its com-
mission on education.
The title of honorary
chairman has been granted
only twice before in the
110-year history of the
UAHC.
Previous recipients were
Rabbi David Phillipson, an
early American Reform
leader, and Rabbi Solomon
B. Freehof, now rabbi
emeritus of Rodef Shalom
Temple in. Pittsburgh, Pa.
The award will be pre-
sented to Rabbi Fram by
Rabbi Daniel B. Syme, di-
rector of the commission
and assistant to Rabbi Ale-
xander M. Schindler,
president of the UAHC, and
son of Temple Israel's Rabbi
M. Robert and Sonia Syme.
Rabbi Fram has been a
member of the Commission
on Education for almost 60
years, during which time he
has served as chairman of
its editing committee, -
charged with editing the
texts used in Jewish reli-
gious schools and Hebrew
schools. •
He is the author of count-
less articles on Jewish edu-
cation, and has delivered
many papers over the years
