Detroit Young Israel Council
hosts scholar-in-residence

Rabbi Baruch Taub will
be the scholar-in-residence
at a weekend planned by the
Young Israel Council of
Metropolitan Detroit from
July 20 to 22.
On July 20, Minchah and
Kabbalat Shabbat services
will begin at 7:15 p.m. at
Young Israel of Oak-Woods.
This will be followed by
Seudat Shabbat for which
reservations will be ,re-
quired. At 9• p.m. Rabbi
Taub will speak on "The
Baal Teshuva Phenomenon:
Problem and Promise."
Rabbi Taub will lecture
on the theme "Zeher L'Hur-
ban: The Jewish Response
to Tragedy" on July 21. This
will be delivered at the
Seudah Shlishit at Young
Israel of Greenfield, which
will follow the Minchah
services at 7:40 p.m.
Shachrit services on July
22 will be held at the Young
Israel of Southfield, at 9
a.m., followed by a conti-
nental breakfast. At 10:15
a.m., Rabbi Taub will lec-
ture on "The Mitzvah of
Yishuv Haaretz: Its Effect
on the Settlement of Judea
and Samaria."
Rabbi Taub was ordained
at Ner Israel Yeshiva, Bal-
timore, and is now the Rav
of Beth Avraham Yaakov of
Toronto Congregation and
president of the Vaad
Harabonim of Toronto.
Before returning to his
native Toronto, he served as
director of National Confer-
ence of Synagogue Youth,
