TOMBSTONE, Ariz. — A
group of 250 local residents
gathered here last month to
mark the restoration of a
100-year-old Jewish cemet-
ery at Boothill, the New
York Times reported.
The Jewish cemetery lies
next to the Boothill grave-
yard where some of the Old
West's most notorious out-
laws were buried, the Times
said. The cemetery has been

Basketball Title
NEW YORK (JTA) —
The Yeshiva University of
Los Angeles (YULA) boys'
high school • basketball
team has won the Westside
league championship, mak-
ing it probably the first
yeshiva high school team to
win a league title in an open
league.
Unlike the all-yeshiva
league in New York city,
YULA plays in a league
comprised of southern
California-based private
schools.
YULA had a 15-5 record,
but lost its first-round game
in the California state tour-
nament. Top scorer and
league most valuable player
Jeff Remer played that
game with an injured wrist
and scored only one point.
Remer, a 170-pound,
5'10" guard, averaged 27
points, five rebounds arid
five assists per game this
season, and has received
a basketball scholarship
from Yeshiva University
in New York.
YULA's coach and ath-
letic director is Scott Rice, a
non-Jew who is a graduate
of Hope College in Michi-
gan.

Tombstone, active as a
silver mining camp in the
1880s when its population
reached 6,000 has been re-
surrected by the tourism in-
dustry. Romanticized por-
trayals of the Old West in
movies and on television
have brought thousands of
tourists to the town, which
now lists 1,600 people as
permanent residents. A late
19th Century business di-
rectory reveals Jews held
numerous jobs in the town
such as miner, merchant,
banker, grocer and
gunsmith. A Jewish mine
superintendent, Abraham
Hyman Emanuel, served as
the town's mayor from
1896-1900. And, according
