NEW YORK (JTA) —
The Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith has
denounced the Council on
Foreign Relations for
featuring at its roundtable
meeting on Monday Dr.
Christopher Giannou, a
self-described member of
the Palestine Liberation
Organization.
Abraham Foxman, asso-
ciate national director of the
ADL, in a telegram to coun-
cil president Winston Lord,
called on the council to "dis-
associate itself from the ter-
rorist views which Dr.
Giannou espouses" and said
it would have been more
appropriate for the council

But a council official said
that because an individual
is invited to speak to its
membership, this does not
mean that the person's
views are those held by the
council itself.
Giannou obtained con-
siderable media cover-
age when, at thd initial
stages of the Israeli inva-
sion of Lebanon in 1982,
he claimed to be an
eyewitness to Israeli at-

Lebanon. The

Court Rejects
Citizenship for
Two Athletes
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Supreme Court has re-
jected an appeal by two
American basketball
players that they be recog-
nized as Israeli citizens. The
two, who are not Jewish,
married Israeli women in
wedding ceremonies in
Cyprus in an effort to qual-
ify to play in league basket-
ball games in Israel. The
court refused to recognize a
change in their status and
ordered them to pay 200,000
Shekels ($1,800) in court
costs.
Over the years, numerous
non-Jewish athletes from
the United States have
undergone marriages of
convenience or quick reli-
gious conversions to attain
Israeli citizenship to qualify
for basketball teams. Fre-
quently, managers of teams
have accepted these
players, despite strenuous
objections by the rabbinate.

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
American film stars Eli
Wallach and his wife Anne
Jackson were in Israel for a
five-day visit last week.
They donated their services
to take part in a documen-
tary film to be made by the
Tel Aviv Development
Foundation in playgrounds
in the city's poorer quarters
and in Jaffa. The film is to
be used for fund-raising
purposes in the U.S.
Anne Jackson recently
played the part of Golda
Meir's secretary in the film
