community-wide "Step Up
to Israel" conference to be
held 12:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at
the main Jewish Commu-
nity Center.
Hollander is responsible
for promoting emigration to
Israel. He received a law
degree from Hebrew Uni-
versity and has served as
prosecutor and judge in the
Israeli army's court martial
division.
Operation 1,000, known
as Project Elef, now in its
second year, is aiming at
sending 1,000 families to Is-
rael this summer offering
them an inside look at fam-
ily life in Israel. Participat-
ing families will be guided
through their one-month
visit to Israel in July or
August by local families.
They will choose from a
variety of specially de-
signed programs includ-
ing; kibutz or moshav liv-
ing, a mini ulpan, ex-
periencing settlement life
in Judea and Samaria,
Jewish history and
Torah study, civilian
work with the army or
participating in an exten-
sive touring program
while staying in a rec-
reational moshay. Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry Kaufman,
who participated in a
similar program, will be
participants in the work-
shop.
Various workshops are
planned for the afternoon
and educational booths will
be set up by the co-
sponsoring organizations.
Israeli food will be avail-
able.

Klein Youth Awards pro-
gram of the Jewish Com-
munity Council of Met-
ropolitan Detroit.
Nomination deadline for
the 1984 awards is April 12.
All youth groups submit-
ting nominations will be
considered for citations.
Award recipients will be
announced during the
Jewish Community Coun-
cil's Delegate Assembly on
May 24.
