memory of Dr. Korczak, a
heroic martyr of the Nazi
Holocaust who gave up his
life to accompany Polish or-
phans in his care to the
Treblinka death camp.
A prize of $1,000 will be
awarded at an appropriate
function this spring in each
of two categories:
• Fiction or non-fiction for
young readers at the
elementary or secondary
school level;
• Books directed to par-
ents and educators on the
welfare and nurturing of
children.

awards will also be pre-
sented in each category and
each winning author will
receive a plaque.
Only books published in
1983 are eligible. These
may be published in any
language.
Applicants are re-
quested to submit three
copies of each entry to
the Janusz Korczak
Literary Award Commit-
tee, Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith,
Suite 1000, 823 United Na-
tions Plaza, New York,
NY 10017. There is no
entry fee.

Youth Aliya
Had Impact

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
Nearly one out of 10 Israelis
attended a Youth Aliya in-
stitution as a youngster, ac-
cording to Israeli President
Chaim Herzog.
The Youth Aliya organ-
ization, founded 50 years
ago, has shifted its em-
phasis from dealing with
immigrant youths to
educating 4-sraeli-born chil-
dren of disadvantaged, im-
migrants.
