JUDITH BANKI

American Jewish Commit-
tee, will present the Jewish
perspective at an interfaith
meeting on "Messianic
Hope" at 7:30 p.m. Monday
at the University of Detroit,
second floor ballroom.
The program is sponsored
by the National Institute of
Catholic-Jewish Education
and the American Jewish
Committee. The public is
invited free of charge.
Ms. Banki works with the
leaders of all religious
groups to advance inter-
faith communication and
cooperation, and to combat
religious prejudice rooted in
distorted religious teach-
ings.

She wrote "The Image
of the Jews in Catholic
Teaching," one of a series
of scholarly memoranda
which the American
Jewish Committee sub-
mitted to the late Cardi-
nal Bea, at his request,
for consideration by the
Vatican Commission
which drafted the his-
toric Declaration of the
Relationship of the
Church to Jews.

Mrs. Banki is one of the
pioneers of interreligious
affairs. She planned and
coordinated the national
"Faith Without Prejudice"
conference at St. Louis Uni-
versity, and has spoken at
various regional and local
institutes on this theme. A
cum laude graduate of the
University of Wisconsin,
she has pursued post-
graduate studies at Colum-
bia University, the New
School for Social Research
and New York University.
The speaker from a
Catholic perspective is Dr.
Eva Fleischner, professor of
religion at Montclair State
College, New Jersey. She is
editor of "Auschwitz: Be-
ginning of a New Era" and
the author of "The View of
Judaism in German Chris-
tian Theology" since 1945.

Say "YES" to Israel's Future on

THE WEEK OF GREEN SUNDAY
DECEMBER 11-15

For over 80 years, the Jewish National Fund has
been saying "yes" to Israel's future. Through ex-
tensive afforestation, land reclamation, and break-
through agricultural research, the JNF has helped
bring new life to an ancient land.
Today, this nation-building work continues. But
vast stretches of barren terrain still remain to be
covered by a blanket of green.

On the week of GREEN SUNDAY — a JNF
volunteer will be calling to ask you to plant
trees in Israel for each member of your
family.

Say "YES" to the Greening of Israel.
Plant trees in Israel on
JNF's GREEN SUNDAY.

Please! We need volunteers. Call us if you want to help make
phone calls on the week of Green Sunday. 557-6644.
