Jewry," Mrs. Shulman is
honorary president of the

Hebrew Rehabilitaton Cen-
ter for the Aged in Roslin-
dale, Mass., and, for 14
years, has been a trustee of
the center. She is a member
of the nominating commit-
tee, a member of the execu-
tive committee and assis-
tant recording secretary.

Combined Jewish
Philanthropies, she was
the women's division vice
president and 1982 cam-
paign chairman, and she
is a member of the execu-
tive board and the
synagogue relation
committee.
Mrs. Shulman's invest-
ment with Temple Emanuel
in Newton has been exten-
sive. She is honorary
president of the sisterhood
and has held numerous
offices and chairmanships
with that group. She also is
honorary president of the
New England branch of the
Women's League for Con-
servative Judaism and has
been a member of its na-
tional board.
Mrs. Harris Crane is

physical medicine and re-
habilitation at William
Beaumont Hospital, has re-
ceived a research award
from the American
Academy of Physical
Medicine and Rehabilita-
tion.

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
Work on the world's largest
solar energy generating
plant, based on a parabolic
reflector system developed
by Luz Industries of
Jerusalem, began last
month in southern Califor-
nia. The 13.8 megawatt
facility, costing $61 million,
is being built for Southern
California Edison, and by
its completion next year
will generate enough elec-
tricity to heat and light
some 7,000 homes.

JERUSALEM (JNI) — A
rise in immigration from
the West led the increase of
616 October 1983 immig-
rants over the same month
last year.
A total of 1,941 immig-
rants arrived in October;
and 13,879 have arrived
since the beginning of the
year, representing a 25 per-
cent increase over the same
period in 1982. Of these,
9,823 came from Western
countries.
Meanwhile, the number
of Soviet immigrants to Is-
rael this year totals 350 —
the lowest figure in a de-
cade.
