IT ISN'T TOO often that
the statement can be made
with assurance of a place
not changing hands again
. . . especially since it has
had three previous owner-
ships. But this seems likely
to be the case with recent
opening of Nicky's . . . in the
concourse at Top of Troy
Bldg. on Big Beaver Road
near 1-75.
First it was Bonaventure,
then Sydney's, then Kogy's
. . . Bonaventure opened
with four owners who all
thought differently . . . then
one of them was bought out
and the three couldn't get
along . . . Next came Syd-
ney's, owned by Syd Harris,
former Elmwood Casino
master of ceremonies . . .
and many years a booking
agent in Chicago . . . Kogy's
was opened by Kogy Aron-
son, with Jack and Fred
Bean . . . When Kogy unfor-
tunately committed suicide,
Jack and son Fred took over
. . . with Fred running oper-
ations as best he could.
Now comes Nicky's . . .
owned by Nick Sorise,
whose managerial prowess,
likable personality and flair
for good food and drinks is
highly noted . . . partner
with barrister Fred Reaser,
whose stimulating
enthusiasm reveals a
clearly honest delight.
People are amazed at
the transformation .. .
with an interior designed
by Ronnie Rea and How-
ard Ellman . . . seating
256, including 55 in a
bar-lounge area ... plus a
room that can be closed

Twelve Mile at Orchard Lake Farmington Hills 553-7000

with shutters for privacy
... and opened when
needed ... a completely
separate room . . . with its
own sound system ...
and draped ceiling.
The elegance of Troy's
new Nicky's is wrapped up
in one word . . . class .. .
surrounded by beautiful
mirrors, live greenery and
lighting seldom if ever seen
in any restaurant . . . Laser
beams cast their rays onto
tables in glamorous setting
that creates such a wondr-
ous feeling . . . If more light
is desired, it can be sprayed
onto the entire table or
booth.
High gloss laminate in
various parts of the room
gives an added look of ele-
gance . . . along with lus-
cious grays, burgundy and
browns . . . even the chairs
have their own identity,
with padded arm rests and
chrome legs that go almost
around the entire structure
. . . No plastic tops over the
print tablecloths . . . real
beveled glass . . . a top qual-
ity feature.
Six thousand lineal feet of
brass has been tastefully
utilized . . . on rails going
down into the slightly lower
bar area . . . and other
regions . . . On the outside,
where once the three former
names stood majestically, a
big brass "N" is backlighted
by "Nicky's of Troy."
In the bar area, the
complete counter top and
tops of floating island ta-
bles are highly styled
with laser lights beaming
softly down into little cir-
cles . . . Etched glass il-
luminated by blue neon
surrounds the bar.
The place had been com-
pletely gutted except for the
bar structure ... which
looks like the lounge of a
futuristic space ship .. .
with its unusual shape and
exotic lighting.

There's a dance floor now
also at Nicky's . . . some-
thing none of the other
three places had . large,
with full mirror in back of
the raised. stage . . . and
around the sides.
Before entering Nicky's
there's a multi-colored
canopy through which one
enters the building . . . to be
greeted in the restaurant by
two sweet, personable and
most congenial young ladies
. . . Linda Lattimer is day-
time hostess . . . and Linda
Caruso evening hostess.
The food prices are
very fair . . . and choices
of menu items excellent
. . . Specials during the
day might include dishes
like poached salmon with
a glazed peach melba
sauce . . . or with a garlic
Mussolini (bernaise)
sauce.
Presentations are exquis-
ite . . . and the food delicious
. . . prepared by Executive
Chef Tino Barrara, former
day chef at Restaurant Dug-
lass . . . and George Janni,
former Restaurant Duglass
prep chef who made so many
