Livonia Synagogue Picks Cantor for High Holidays
Dr. Jay B. Azneer has
been engaged as cantor for
the High Holidays at the
Livonia Jewish Congrega-
tion.
Dr. Azneer studied under
the late Cantors Joseph
Rosenblatt and Mendechan
Hirshman. His father was a
child, cantor.
He was graduated from
the Cantorial College,
Youngstown State Univer-
sity and Kirksville (Mo.)
School of Osteopathic
Medicine.

Beth Jacob at its annual
congregational meeting.
She is the first woman to be
elected president of the con-
gregation since its inception
in 1923.

Lutheran Council • of
America has published
"Luther and the Jews," a
booklet containing excerpts
from addresses by Dr. Erich
W. Gritsch of the Lutheran
Theological Seminary in
Gettysburg, Pa., and Rabbi
Marc Tanenbaum, national
director of interreligious af-
fairs for the American
Jewish Committee.
The presentations, given
before the council earlier
this year as part of the cele-
bration marking the 500th
anniversary of Martin
Luther's birth, trace the de-
velopment of anti-Semitism
in the Middle Ages and re-
late Luther's anti-Jewish
beliefs to later events.

for Effort During
Special Olympics
The efforts of Detroiter
Paul Zuckerman in secur- --
a delegation of Israelis
to participate in last
month's Special -Olympics
held in Baton Rouge, La.
were cited in a letter to Zuc-
kerman from Eunice Ken-
nedy Shriver, president of
the Special Olympics.
Zuckerman is the
president of AKIM-USA,
the American friends sup-
port group for AKIM, an -
organization for the men-
tally retarded in Israel.
Highlights from the Spe-
cial Olympics will be tele-
vised on ABC's "Wide World
of Sports," 5 p.m. Saturday.
Among the units receiv-
ing awards were the Basic
Training Camp for Women
Recruits, the air force and
the navy. Overall, IDF
soldiers have donated
80,000 units of blood within
the past year.
