Soviet Union have bee n
granted 90-day touris
visas, but said they plan t 0
apply for permanent resi
dent status.
Pyotr Vashchenko, 55
and his 54-year-old wife
Avgustina, along with thei r
12 children, a daughter-in
law and other relatives
joined a daughter, Lidiya
who emigrated to Israel last
year.
The well publicized plight
of the Vashschenkos came
after five members of the
family slipped by Soviet
policemen on the sidewalk
in front of the United States
Embassy in Moscow and
sought asylum there five
years ago, claiming reli-
gious persecution by the
Soviet authorities.
Although they are not
Jews, the Vashchenkos
came to Israel out of reli-
gious convictions. The
Pentacostalists are
members of a Protestant
fundamentalist sect that
stresses direct inspira-
t ion by the holy spirits.
Late in 1981, Lidiya, 32,
went on a hunger strike to
d raw attention to the plight
0 f those in aslyum. In
anuary 1982, she left the
e mbassy for medical treat-
ment. Last March, Lidiya
was suddenly summoned to
t he visa office and told to fill
0 tit an application to emi-
grate. She arrived in Israel

Paris Activist
Gets Jail Term
for Bombings

PARIS (JTA) — A self-
confessed anti-Zionist ac-
tivist has been sentenced to
six-years imprisonment by
a Paris court for complicity
in bomb attacks against
firms linked with Israel.
Frederic Oriach, 29, a
militant of the anti-Zionist
Communist Revolutionary
Group, denied having par-
ticipated in the attacks but
the prosecutions based its
dosier on the fact that he
has written anti-Zionist
leaflets and that a list of 38
firms had been the target of
bomb attacks.
Some 50 friends of the de-
fendant threw rotten eggs
in court when the judge de-
livered the sentence. They
also shouted pro-
Palestinian slogans.

Harel surprisingly moved to
pass the motion "because of
its importance" to the Knes-
set foreign affairs and secu-
rity committee. But Harel's
move caused anger from the
Likud coalition and also
from fellow Alignment
members.
"Once again you cooper-
ate with Rakah," one un-
identified MK said, appar-
ently referring to a Hadash
non-confidence motion
submitted last week regard-
ing the doctor's strike at
which time the Labor
Alignment voted for the mo-
tion. The motion was easily
defeated last week, but the
Hadash motion Wednesday
was struck off the agenda
when four Alignment mem-
bers — Raanan Naim, Jac-
que Amir, Yitzhak Peretz
and Tamar Eshel — voted
with the Likud.
