East.
The annual event was oc-
casion for acclaim for the
labor ranks in Israel and the
services of the trade union
as a democratizing force in
the Middle East.
The dinner was con-
ducted under the
toastmastership of Wil-
liam C. Marshall, chair-
man of the Michigan
AFL-CIO and the Michi-
gan Trade Union Council
for Histadrut.
The relationship of the
' trade unions in Israel and
the United States was the
theme of the address of the
guest speaker, Anthony S.
Earl, governor of Wiscon-
sin, who was introduced by
Hugh Jarvis, active in the
organizing committee for
the Blanchard dinner.
Gov. Earl, commending
Blanchard's "courage in his
actions and convictions,
listed the Michigan Gover-

nor's devotion to Israel's
needs among his high qual-
ities.
Gov. Blanchard went into
detail, in addition to outlin-
ing his interest in Histadrut
and in the Israel trade
union movement and he
reaffirmed his deep interest
in assuring a protected Is-
rael.
A resolution of com-
mendation for Gov. Blan-
chard and his pro-
grammatic activities was
presented on behalf of
the Detroit City Council
by Council President
Erma Henderson.
Participants in the pro-
gram included Rabbi M.
Robert Syme, Rev. Frank D.
Gentile, Cantor Max
Shimansky and Dearborn
Councilman Duane Yinger.

It is with schools of this
type attended by-the under-
privileged that Israel
bridges the gap between its
citizens who in turn are
helping to develop the state
of Israel. Only by fostering
education, by teaching
skills and democracy can we
enable the deprived to live
as free citizens, and to cope
with the issues and technol-
ogy of the modern world.
By your attendance here,
you are aiding in the cause

bridge to understanding
and peace among nations,
and by our efforts, we are

benefit of the Governor
