Rabbi Zentman Helps Retarded Learn About Judaism

Rabbi Abraham Zentman
is bringing Jewish studies
programs to the residents of
the Jewish Association for
Retarded Citizens' Haverim
Homes.
An instructor at the
Midrasha-College of Jewish
studies, Rabbi Zentman
participates in the
Midrasha-on-Wheels out-
reach program. The pro-
gram provides classes at
homes, institutions or other
locations throughout the
community.
The course curriculum is
determined by the students
and the instructor. Recently
a class focused on the his-
tory of the Jewish people
and Passover history and
customs.
Rabbi Zentman has
long been involved in
special educatiOn. His
interest was sparked by
his relationship with the
disabled son of family
friends, who he helped
prepare for Bar Mitzva.
The idea for the classes
first occured during a meet-
ing at the Gilmore Haverim
Home. Rabbi Zentman saw
the need for Jewish educa-
tion expressed by interested
clients, and suggested that

Zentman teaches classes at
Adat Shalom, Prentis
Manor, Jewish Federation
Apartments and Jewish

Family Service, as well as
two groups each of Bnai
Brith members and special
education students.
