Inflated Tourism? Special Meaning for Twinned Bnot Mitzva

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Is-
raeli officials and members
of the tourism industry are
at odds over tourism figures
for the country.
Uggi Pilowsky of Topol
tours says the government
counts every foreign na-
tional who visits Israel as a
tourist. Industry represen-
tatives cut the government
figures in half because, they
say, 50 percent of the
"tourists" stay with rela-
tives in Israel and do not
spend money in hotels or
restaurants.

The twinned Bnot Mitzva
ceremony at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek at 8 p.m. today will
have a„special poignancy.
The Bnot Mitzva, Helen
Bordman and Tamara
Stillman, will share their
special day with a Soviet
Jewish girl in absentia
whose name is unknown in
the West. Previous Bnot
Mitzva knew the names of
their counterparts.
The only information
available about the Russian
Jewish Bat Mitzva is that
she is the daughter of

Leonid Lamm, a railroad
worker, and his wife, In-
essa.
The Shaarey Zedek
ceremony is the first to be
linked to this particular
child. Other Bnai and
Bnot Mitzva in the USSR
have been linked many
times to their American
Jewish counterparts.
Although the Bordmans
have made several attempts
to contact the family, their
letters have gone unan-
swered.

AN EVENING WITH THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE

A Public Address by the World's Foremost Jewish Spiritual Leader

Rabbi
Menachem M. Schneerson

THURSDAY,
JUNE 23, 1983
AT 9:30 PM EDT

This special address will commemorate the
56th anniversary of the miraculous liberation
of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef
Yitzchak Schneerson (1880-1950), from
Soviet prison.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak was incarcerated
and sentenced to death because of his re-
fusal to yield to the incessant pressure
exerted upon him by the 'Yevsektzia' and the
dreaded N.K.V.D. to halt his activities in
strengthening and spreading Judaism
throughout Russia. The results of his efforts
on behalf of the Jewish population of Russia
are felt there to this very day.

time. In his years as leader of world Jewry he
has set into motion massive social and edu-
cational programs, which continuously touch
the lives of millions of people around the
world, Jews and non-Jews alike. Under his
leadership the Chabad-Lubavitch movement
has become the most dynamic force in
Judaism.

The scope of the Rebbe's public addresses
extend from profound Talmudic and Chas-
sidic teachings to events of current vital na-
tional and international concern.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem
M. Schneerson, son-in-law and successor to
Rabbi Yosef Yitzhak, is considered to be the
most phenomenal Jewish personality of our

During the brief intermissions in the Re-
bbe's talk the thousands in attendance at
Lubavitch World Headquarters, will join in
Chassidic singing and raise their cups in
greeting "L'Chayim" to the Rebbe.
