AVRAHAM BEN AV-
RAHAM AVINU, 73, of

Detroit, died May 7. Sur-
vived by two sons, Mor-
dechai Shimon and Charles;
three daughters, Chana
Gittel, Marian and Lucia;
and nine grandchildren.

93, died May 10. She leaves
a son, Gerald; a daughter,
Mrs. Flora Hoffman; five
grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.

Laura Nusbaum

Laura Nusbaum, a
member and supporter of
charitable, religious and
Zionist organizations, died
May 11 at age 85.
Born in Poland, Mrs.
Nusbaum lived 53 years in
the U.S. The widow of Abe
Nusbaum, founder of New
York Carpet World, Mrs.
Nusbaum was active with
her husband in the business
until his death.
She was a life member of
Cong. Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses and its sisterhood.
Among the community
organizations of which she
was a member are: Detroit
Chapter, American Women
for Bar-Ilan University;
American Mizrachi
Women; Hadassah; Detroit
Friends of Shaare Zedek
Hospital; Women's Ameri-
can ORT and Ladies of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah.
Mrs. Nusbaum is sur-
vived by a son, Irving; a
daughter, Mrs. Joseph
(Frances) Fetter; and five
grandchildren. Services 1
p.m. today at Hebrew
Merriorial Chapel.

Anna Hoffman
Had Military Post

NEW YORK — Anna
Rosenberg Hoffman, assis-
tant secretary of defense
from 1950 to 1953, died May
9 at age 81.

A public relations execu-
tive for many years, Mrs.
Hoffman specialized in
manpower and personnel
while in the Pentagon. She
was then the highest rank-
ing woman ever to serve in
the nation's military estab-
lishment.

She was active in the
Democratic Party and was
appointed by Franklin D.
Roosevelt to the National
Recovery Administration.
. She held other political
posts in New York on the
state and local levels.

Devaluation Due?

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Fi-
nancial circles in Israel be-
lieve that the shekel will be
devalued up to 30 percent.
There are now 42 shekels to
the U.S. dollar.

HARRY DASHKIN, 82,
of Southfield, died May 4.
Survived by a son, Gerald B.
of North Hollywood, Calif.;

Kosher Caterer

Cecile Sylvia Rosenberg,
a former kosher caterer,
died May 10 at age 85.
Born in Hungary, Mrs.
Rosenberg lived in the U.S.
69 years. She started out as
a cook in Mt. Clemens at
Kramer's Olympia Hotel
and later worked for
Lachar's Catering in De-
troit. ,
In 1947, she went into the
catering business with her
sons, Al and Bob, and be-
came one of Detroit's top
kosher caterers. She retired
in 1970. The business is car-
ried on by her grandson, Jef-
frey.
She was a life member of
City of Hope, a life member
of American Mizrachi
Women, a member of Ladies
of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah
and Hadassah.
She is survived by her
sons, Al and Bob of
Bakersfield, Calif.; a
daughter, Mrs. Aubie
(Rosella) Cooperman of
Boca Raton, Fla.; a brother,
Louis Markowitz; nine
grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.

Lillian Rice, a former
buyer for Winkelman's,
died May 6 at age 79.
A native Detroiter, Mrs.
Rice was a member of Cong.
