The Best of Everything

(Continued from Page 30)
met Oriental delicacies not
seen elsewhere . . . or if so,
originated here . The lat-
ter has caused rumors to
start that owner Henry
Lum owns -more than this
restaurant . . . Fact is that
former chefs have gone
elsewhere, opening for
themselves and using Great
Wall originals.
The Great Wall enjoys its
own niche among Oriental
dining spots . . . a place
where people can savor very
much better than usual
Chinese dining . . . or far-
eastern gourmet cuisine
without the ultra high
prices.
It is open Monday
through Thursday 11 to 10
. . . Friday and Saturday 11
to 12 midnight . . . and Sun-
day 12 noon to 10.
LOU POPPER of Em-
pire Packing covets the let-
ters he has received from re-
tarded citizens for his ,
generosity in making their
holidays a happier one ...
with gathered contributions
of produce, meat and canned
goods . . . Also the bike he
got for the child of a re-
tarded mother . . . His work
with the Jewish Association
for Retarded Citizens is
most admirable.
IF YOU HAVEN'T seen
Johnny Trudell at Jamie's,_
on Seven Mile Rd. and
Middlebelt in Livonia,
you're missing one of the
greatest trumpet players in
the nation . . . right here in
our own back yard.
NICKY'S MAY be new
name of Kogy' s . .. around
July . . . in Top of Troy Bldg.
on Big Beaver . . . It would
be owned by Nick Cerice
and John Reaser . . . danc-
ing, entertainment . . . and
American cuisine with an
Italian flavor . A com-
plete cosmetic change
would be made.
SECOND TRIP to new
Book Casino Motor Bar was
another good one . . . Wash-
ington Blvd. doesn't look
the same with its "erector
set" scenery, but who cares?
. . . The Motor Bar decor
seems better than ever .. .
thanks to Phyllis Dix, who,
inside of just one week,
interior designed the Motor
Bar back to its warm ele-
gance.
Pleasant, eager-to-please
George Giuliani, former day
manager at Motor Bards
now evening host . . . It's
open only for dinner now .. .
no more lunches.
Our waiter, Robert
Spencer, was personable,
efficient and courteous .. .
bringing us a well-bodied
and hot seafood chowder,
cold, crisp salad on iced
plates . . . and delicious
crabmeat-stuffed shrimps
topped with lobster sauce.
Those who missed out
seeing the Four
Freshmen were big losers
... The fellows are still
great ... even though
only one, Bob Flanigan,
remains from the original
group ... Drummer and
sax man Autie Goodman
was with the Moder-
naires . . . and is second in

seniority, joining the ver-
satile gents nine years
ago ... All play various
instruments ... and
blend voices together in
rhythmic perfection .
For nostalgic sake, there
was "Candy," "Poin-
ciana," "Day By Bay,"
"It's A Blue World,"
"Polka Dots and Moon-
beams," "It Could Hap-
pen To You" and so many
more.
Last time the,. Four
Freshmen played Book
Cadillac years ago . . . 15
years after they had formed
out of Butler University
"We finally got a return
engagement," said Bob .. .
and my, was the audience
happy.
