Soviet Union and Eastern
Eitrope.
As a child, he was beaten
by classmates when they
learned he was a Jew, and,
at age 17, he was nearly kil-
led by an anti-Semitic mob
in Leningrad.
He
currently
is
composer-in-residence at
the University of Texas at
El Paso.

JFS Program
for Unemployed

Jewish Family Service is
forming a support group for
unemployed and "under-
employed" individuals.
Family members are also
invited.
The program seeks to
prevent physical, social and
psychological damage
caused by the economy. It
will teach participants to
recognize signs of depres-
sion and encourage them to
seek further help.
The free program will
begin 7 p.m. May 16 at the
Morris Branch of the Jewish
Community Center and
continue for six weeks.
Caseworker resource per-
