The Troy Jewish Congre-
gation will hold its first
services 7:45 p.m. today at
Emerson Unitarian
Church, 4230 Livernois.
However, beginning April
29, the congregation will
begin meeting at Lutheran
Church of the Master, 3333
Coolidge.
The congregation will
hold a processional with its
Ark and Torah to the
Lutheran Church of the
Master at 2 p.m. Sunday,
starting from the Fellow-
ship United Methodist
Church, 4050 Coolidge.
Congregants of the
Lutheran church will begin
a procession at the same
time from their church and
meet the Jewish congrega-
tion half-way. A reception
will follow at the church.
At its meeting last week,
the Troy Jewish Congrega-
tion adopted by-laws and a
dues structure. For infor-
mation about the congrega-

will be celebrated by many

nity on Saturday. The cele-
bration will commemorate
the 25th anniversary of the
day school.

Michael Adelman will
twin his Bar Mitzva with
his Russian Jewish coun-
terpart, Karmi Elbert of
Kiev, at Shabat services at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek
Saturday.
Karmi is the son of Lev
and Inna Elbert of Kiev in
the Ukraine. The Elberts
have been denied permis-
sion to emigrate since 1976.
Since their application to
leave, the grounds for re-
fusal have changed several
times and the couple has
been threatened and haras-
sed.
The senior Elbert was
fired from his job in 1981.
The couple have been in-
volved in a group which
petitioned the Kiev City
Council for permission to
hold a religious ceremony at
Babi Yar, the site of a Nazi
massacre which the Rus-
sian government has re-
fused to acknowledge.
To symbolize the ab-
sence of Karmi, a roped-

NEW YORK — Yeshiva
University's Wurzweiler
School of Social Work, the
only graduate social work
program under Jewish au-
spices in the U.S., is celeb-
rating its 25th anniversary
by settling into its fourth
home — on the campus
where the school started 25
years ago.
Last summer, the school
returned to the university's
Main Center in Manhat-
tan's Washington Heights,
after occupying quarters in
midtown Manhattan and
Greenwich Village.

been elected president of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek at the
synagogue's 122nd annual
meeting.
Elected with him were
Myron L. Milgrom and
Marvin Fleischman, vice
presidents; Irving Laker,
treasurer; and Yale Levin,
secretary.
A graduate of the
synagogue's religious
school, Hermelin was a
member of numerous
synagogue committees and
held positions as a member
of the board, secretary,
treasurer and vice
president.
He is national co-
chairman of State of Is-
rael Bonds, chairman of
the executive committee
of the American ORT
Federation, on the board
of overseers of the
Jewish Theological Sem-
inary, and on the boards
of the Detroit Round
Table of the National
Conference of Christians
and Jews and the Jewish
Home for Aged.
Hermelin also is active in
tasks on behalf of Bar-Ilan
University and the Ameri-
can Friends of Hebrew Uni-
versity.
Hermelin is a director of
City National Bank and is
