Harold Beznos, will be
honored "in recognition of
his manifold activities and
philanthropic deeds for the
Jewish community and the
furtherance of its tradi-
tions, on behalf of the state
of Israel and for all man-
kind."
The Vaad Harabonim,
comprised of 23 rabbis re-
presenting synagogues and
educational institutes
throughout the metropoli-
tan area, Windsor, Ontario
and Toledo, Ohio, conducts
a Beth Din and houses a
Judaic library.
The Vaad supervises all
matters pertaining to kas-
hrut, skokhtim, dairy prod-
ucts, caterers, slaughter
houses and retail meat
dealers and community in-
stitutions. Some of the
supervised facilities include
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion, Sinai Hospital, Jewish
Community Center
Cafeteria and Jewish Fed-
eration Apartments.
Affidavits are also pro-
vided for people going to Is-
rael to be married. The rab-
binical court supervises
adoptions by Jewish
families, conducts conver-
sions according to Halakha,
deals with marriage and di-
vorce problems and handles
litigations.
The kashrut division in-
cludes a department which
analyzes information on all
ingredients of items sold as
kosher and provides its find-
ings to the community. The
council publishes a monthly
newsletter on kashrut data
called the - Koshergram
which is produced by the
Merkaz, the layman's asso-
ciation of the Vaad. Con-
sumers wishing to receive
the free bulletin can call the
Vaad office, 559-5005.
As a special service, the
Council will send a
mashgiakh to any home at
no charge to provide assis-
tance and guidance in con-
verting to kashrut.
