CLEVELAND — Jac-
queline K. Levine, of West
Orange, N.J. was elected to
chair the National Jewish
Community Relations
Advisory Council
(NJCRAC).
Ms. Levine's election re-
presents the first time a
woman has ever been
named to head a major
American Jewish public af-
fairs organization, aside
from the women who have
led Jewish groups primarily
comprised of women.
LOS ANGELES — The
Simon Wiesenthal Center
has announced March pub-
lication of a companion vol-
ume to the Academy
Award-winning
film,
called
"Genocide,"
"Genocide: Critical Issues of
the Holocaust."
Contents include 50 es-
says by 25 scholars and
Holocaust experts. Articles
utilize the historical,
sociological, psychological
and theological perspec-
tives of viewing the
Holocaust.
Copies of "Genocide: Crit-
ical Issues of the Holocaust"
may be obtained in
bookstores beginning in
early March or direct from
the publisher, Rossel Books,

REHOVOT — A team of
scientists from Israel and
the United States, working
at the Weizmann Institute,
has discovered a new family
of compounds that may pre-
vent, or reverse the onset of
Sickle-Cell Anemia, a gene-
tic disorder prevalent
among black people.
The Weizmann project
was undertaken by Marian
Gorecki of the institute's
department of Organic
Chemistry and Dr. Alexan-
der Rich, of the Massachu-
setts Institute of. Technol-
ogy. The research team was
joined by three other profes-
sors, including a graduate
student from Ghana.
In experimental tests
using the blood of donors,
amino acid compounds de-
veloped by the scientists,

in its new library, which is
expected to be completed in
September.
The Judaica collection
will eventually house 8,000
volumes.
