The Allied Jewish Cam-
paign's intensive cash drive
is continuing through this
month,_ with contributors
being reminded of the sig-
nificant tax benefits they
will receive on all payments
made prior to Dec. 31.
"The next few weeks will
provide contributors the
opportunity to realize a tax
savings, regardless of
amount of gift or income,
while they help their fellow
Jews in need," according to
Campaign Chairman Joel
Tauber. He said that social
service beneficiaries locally
and in Israel are facing se-
vere cutbacks because of a
lack of cash.
Tauber states that under
current federal tax law it is
advantageous to make
Campaign payments in
1982, rather than waiting
until next year. For exam-
ple, those individuals who
itemize deductions on their
tax returns will be affected
in 1983 by a reduction in in-
dividual income tax rates.

For those who don't
itemize, the Tax Act of 1981
allows a maximum deduc-
tion of 25 percent of the first
$100 of charitable gifts. A
$100 gift will actually cost
$75. The full value of ap-
preciated assets as
securities and certain prop-
erties continue to qualify as
charitable gifts.
The act also increases the
corporate limit for charita-
ble contribution de-
ductions from five percent
of taxable income to 10 per-
cent.

tion review committee,
headed by I. William Sherr,
and the cash mobilization
committee, chaired by Louis
Berry, are conducting the
massive cash effort. Con-
tributors are being urged to
make full payment of 1982
Campaign pledges, as well
as payments on their special
Israel Emergency Fund and
Project Renewal pledges.
Because of the pressing
needs, contributors also are
being requested to consider
advance payment on their
1983 Campaign pledge. The
previously mentioned tax
advantages also pertain to
those payments.
