Kibutz Leads to Commitment

TEL AVIV (JNI) — A re-
cent survey for Bar-Ilan
University reveals that 90
percent of Jewish youths
who spent a year on a reli-
gious kibutz feel that their
destinies depend on the fate
of the state of Israel. A full
95 percent see themselves
as "more Jewish" than
youths in their countries of
origin.

Israel's security situation —
the most-commonly cited
reason for non-aliya — also
dropped appreciatively
after a year on kibutz. The
students expressed increas-
ing readiness to make aliya
and their belief that one can
live as a complete zionist
only in Israel.

UN Conference
Is 'Hijacked'

NEW YORK — A charge
that the UN's "Decade for
Women" activities have
been "hijacked" by PLO
supporters has been made
by the National Jewish
Community Relations
Advisory Council
(NJCRAC).
The statement expressed
fear that the Decade's final
conference, scheduled for
Nairobi in 1985, might be
marked by attempts "to
manipulate the conference"
by "forces indifferent and
even inimical to women's
programs" as were the de-
cade's two previous confer-
ences.
Calling for vigorous U.S.
action to prevent this, the
NJCRAC statement
charged that "the planning
process for 1985 remains
under the control of the
same anti-democratic
forces," citing anti-Zionist
resolutions and agenda
items already adopted.
