Governor-Elect Jim Blan-
chard and his staff celebrate
their victory? . . . Was day
after at Rialto Restaurant
on Woodward south of Nine
Mile . . . About 65 people
attended (if all the hard-
workers on his campaign
were there, Rialto owners
Charlie and Frank Pappas
would have needed a place
at least ten times the size).
Devoted souls in bringing
a victory for Blanchard in-
cluded . . . Rick Wiener,
field director, son of Cor-
nelia Wiener; Shelby Sol-
omon, congressional ad-
ministrative assistant, son
of Ernie and Gloria Sol-
omon; Tom Lewand, man-
ager; Tom Watkins, de-
puty; Betty Howe, press sec-
retary; Conrad Mallet, Jr.,
Detroit director; Michael
Hais, pollster; Charles
Silver, Oakland County di-
rector;Tobe Berkowitz,
media buyer, etc., etc.
VASSILI'S FAMILY
DINING is the new name of
former Beef 'n Bird free-
standing restaurant on
Southfield between 11 and
12 Mile . . . No more buffet-
style . . . now a full sitdown
dining spot . . . still low
priced . . . and also open for
breakfast, lunch and
dinner.
The 130-seater is owned
by Bill and Angelo Vassili
. . . clean, new wallpaper,
new grill (Beef 'n Bird never
had one) and complete
kitchen renovation . . . The
cooking area was never big
but now it looks like a
kitchen.
Bill has cooked at many
spots whose names people
would recognize . . . plus
owning his own place .. .
and Angelo is an ace greeter
. . . The Vassili brothers
have enough experience to
make the former Beef ''n
Bird a place to go for good
food at low prices.
HOW'S THIS FOR an
idea? . . . Rhinoceros Res-
taurant on Riopelle, has a
"Windsor Is A Winner"
promotion . . . No discount
on Canadian money .. .
Owner Norman Schwartz
and Rhinoceros staff have a
separate cash register for
Canadian money . . . and
give change back in the
same across-the-river cur-
rency.
NO TRUTH to the rumor
that Chef Milo Chihelka is
leaving or has left the Gol-
den Mushroom on 10 Mile
and Southfield . . . It was his
former Sous Chef Paul
Yousoufian who went to the
new Pernie's on Nine Mile
and E. Jefferson . . . Pernie's
is the former Huck's .. .
owned by Peter Stathis and
Ernie Agnu.
YOU FIGURE it out .. .
Van Dyke Club won't take
any Saturday night reser-
vations until next January
. . . and folks who want one
have to call in December.
IT'S A YEAR already .. .
as Premier Center cele-
brated first anniversary on
Van Dyke in Sterling
Heights.
A LOT OF surprised
people attended recent
Southfield Boards and
Commissions Awards Ban-
quet at the Southfield
Pavillion . . . They didn't
, dream of getting such a
great dinner . . . But when
you have a chef like Richard
Zimmerman, along with
Mark Stein and Frank Win-
ton, the combo that makes
up Mark of Excellence Cat-
ering, it has become ex-
pected by those who know.
The 350 people had excel-
lent beef tenderloin with
bernaise sauce, Dauphoins
sliced potato baked in
cheese and custard (first
time Chef Richard had
made it for a party) . . . and
elegant chocolate mousse
dessert.
Mark of Excellence caters
at Temple Israel and Tem-
ple Beth El . . . If they get a
catering home base (Mark
was Sammy Lieb_erman's
partner), look for another
biggie to take over catering
operations like Raleigh
House did.

PARIS (JTA) — Swas-
tikas and anti-Semitic slo-
gans were daubed on
Jewish-owned stores in the
Paris suburb of Garges-
les-Gonesse last week.
Police said that nine
Jewish store owners filed
complaints last Friday after
they found their shop win-
dows marked with anti-
Semitic slogans. At the
same time, a three-foot-
high swastika and the slo-
gan "France for Frenchmen
only" were drawn on the
walls of the small city's un-
derground parking garage.
Several non-Jewish local
political personalities also
had their walls daubed with
hostile slogans and a work-
shop belonging to the city's
Socialist mayor was burned
down as a result of criminal
arson.
