Kissinger Humor

The New York Times
Washington Talk page last
Saturday, took note of "Kis-
singer Humor" in the fol-
lowing item:
"Simcha Dinitz, former
Israeli ambassador to the
United States, was in town
(Washington) to attend a
conference of Friends of He-
brew University. Sitting on
a couch in the lobby of his
hotel, he told this tale about
Henry A. Kissinger:
"A few weeks ago Dinitz
and Shimon Peres, the
Labor Party leader in Is-
rael, were visiting Mr. Kis-
singer at a guest house on
Long Island. The former
Secretary of State invited
his two old friends to join
him for a stroll on the beach.
"Along the way, a
Jewish man swimming in
the ocean recognized
Peres and rushed out of
the water to greet him. A
few hundred yards on
down the beach a New
Jersey couple recognized
Dinitz and stopped to
chat.
"At this point Kissinger,
who likes to joke about his
ego, informed his walking
companions, 'If no one rec-
ognizes me in the next five
minutes, this meeting is
over.' "
