U.S. Is Home
for Rothschild

NEW YORK — Baron
Guy de Rothschild, having
left France for more
"capitalistic" surroundings,
has become a legal resident
of the United States and is
now living in New York, ac-
cording to the New York
Times.
The financier left France
last spring when the coun-
try's socialist president,
Francois Mitterrand,
nationalized the 175-year-
old Banque Rothschild and
much of the Rothschild fi-
nancial empire.
"A Jew under Petain,
an outcast under Mitter-
rand — for ,me it is
enough," he wrote in the
Paris newspaper Le
Monde. "I am forced into
retirement. I wish I could
go on strike."
Despite what appear to
have been anti-Jewish
bombings in Paris,
Rothschild told the Times
that he saw no resurgence of
anti-Semitism in France,
nor does he consider a re-
surgence likely.

There is no truer and
more abiding happiness
than the knowledge that
one is free to go on doing,
day by day, the best work
one can do, in the kind one
likes best, and that this
work is absorbed by a steady
market and thus supports
one's own life. Perfect free-
dom is reserved for the man
who lives by his own work
and in that work does what
he wants to do.
