racism should be the subject
of a study.
The issue of racial dis-
crimination was a major
item on the agenda of the
current session of the UN
Sub-Commission on the
Prevention of Discrimina-
tion and Protection of
Minorities. The WJC,' re-
presented by its European
Branch director, Daniel
Lack, .told the body, "We
would be failing in our duty
if we did not draw the atten-
tion of the members of the
Sub-Commission to the re-
vival of the age-old scourge
of anti-Semitism . . . and
more particularly racist and
anti-Semitic terrorism."
The meeting, which
witnessed violent attacks
against the Israel action
in Lebanon, received a
proposal by the Pakis-
tani representative,
Munir Akram, that a Sy-
rian suggestion be taken
up which recommended
a formal study showing
that Zionism was a . form
of racism. Upon taking
the floor, the WJC repre-
sentative denounced the
"attempt to compare
Zionism to Nazi ideology
(as) one of the most
obscene equations of de-
ranged minds."
Lack, speaking on behalf
of both the WJC and the In-
ternational Council • of
Jewish Women, recalled
that in. April the Parlia-
ment of the European
Community unanimously
condemned the refusal of
Pakistan to admit a
humanitarian European
parliamentary delegation
concerned with refu-
gees in Pakistan led by
Gerard Israel, solely be-
cause of his Jewish ancestry
and his connection with a
Jewish charitable organiza-
tion. "We call on the Sub-
Commission in the context
of this item to prescribe
such transparent attempts
. . . for spreading obnoxi-
ous racial slanders," Lack
added.
The Pakistaiii represen-
tative demanded the floor to
reply and endorsed the posi-
tion of his government
which was "against the phi-
losophy of Zionism." He re-
ferred to the "arrogance" of
Lack's statement, remark-
ing it was "testimony to a
racist attitude."

Neo-Nazis
Are Ousted
from Beirut

BONN (JTA) — Some 15
West German leftwing
urban terrorists and right-
wing neo-Nazis were among
the PLO terrorists who were
evacuated from west Beirut,
according to the federal
West German police.
The police said that
among the Germans who
left Beirut were some who
were on Bonn's list of
most-wanted terrorists.
In the past few years the
federal police has tried in
vain to obtain the arrest of
West German extremists
who worked with the PLO
in Beirut and in other parts.
of Lebanon.
