JERUSALEM (JNI) '—
The Israel Foreign Ministry
expressed astonishment at
Nicaragua's Aug. 6 sever-
ing of diplomatic relations
since Israel has had no offi-
cial contact with the Man-
agua government for three
years.
Ministry spokesman Avi
Pasner said the Sandanista
government froze relations
with Israel after it took
power in 1979. He added
that the PLO has been
training Sandanist gueril-
las and Nicaraguan pilots.
News reports say that 200
Nicaraguan volunteers are
fighting with the PLO in
Beirut.
Neither Israel nor
Nicaragua has a diplomat
in the other country. The
PLO maintains a fully-
accredited diplomatic mis-
sion in the Nicaraguan cap-
ital.

NEW YORK — A street
in Charleston, N.C. and one
in Philadelphia have
been re-named in honor of
Raoul Wallenberg, who re-
scued thousands of Hunga-
rian Jews from the Nazis
during World War H.
The street on which the
Charleston Jewish Federa-
tion and that city's Jewish
community center are lo-
cated has been re-named.
Philadelphia re-named
Levick Street after Wallen-
berg for the month of
August. The street is the lo-
cation of a Holocaust
museum.
