LISTENING
POST

HARD TO BELIEVE
that a year has already gone
by . * . Tomorrow, Aug. 21,
1982, is a date I'll never
forget . . . That's when our
mom, Mrs. Minnie Raskin,
passed on to another world.
Wherever she is, I hope
Mom won't mind our finally
revealing how old she was
. . . 97 ... She never would
while still here . . . I con-
gratulated her through the
column on birthday number
86 ... and to be sure, it was
the last time!
She said that if I ever did
it again, not to come over for
those great Friday night
dinners . . . and mom meant
it . . . I think . . . But taking
a chance on giving up those
Friday nights with her was
too much a gamble, so it was
always just happy birthday
with a question mark . . . I
could go on and on with
stories about that swell gal
mom of mine, brother Mar-
vin's, sisters Lillian Rosen's
and Belle Weingarden's .. .
but I know many would be
left out . . . No stories .' .
Just that she was a terrific
mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother.
Liz and Rube Weiss said it
best in a letter to me when
she passed on . . . "People
will say that your mother
lived a long life. But what
they fail to realize is that
you had her longer to love"
. . . It sure was the truth . . .
and we miss her greatly .. .
P.S. Wherever you are,
mom, hope you don't mind
my telling your age.
CONGRATS.. . . to Mol-
lie and Ed Miller . . . on
their 48th anniversary.
DURING SPRING
TERM at Michigan State
U., Joyce Schlafer, daugh-
ter of Ellen and Milton
Schlafer, could often be seen
helping youngsters in an art
class . . . However, most of
them couldn't see her— .
She was enrolled in MSU's
"Art in Special Education"
which incorporates blind
and handicapped children
. . . The class provides MSU
students with practical ex-
periencein dealing with the
handicapped . . . plus be-
nifitting them . . . A junior
majoring in special educa-
tion, Joyce graduated Oak
Park High in 1980.
PROUD GRAND-
PARENTS Zygie and Irma
Allweiss recently hosted a
reception for family and
friends to honor their
daughters' baby girls re-
ceiving Hebrew names at
Temple Israel services .. .
Allison Sandra Tschirhart,
- the daughter of Richard and
Esther (Allweiss)
Tschirhart, was named
Amita Sarah . .. Jenifer
Sara Davis, daughter of
Michael and Janice
(Allweiss) Davis, was given
the name of Yonima Fruma
Sarah.

CONGRATS TO ...
George and Elsie Yellen . .
recently feted on their 40th
wedding _anniversary . . . at
home of daughter and son-
in-law, Dr. Margo and Dr.
Douglas Woll.

SARY of Second Genera-
tion Singles, 21-45, will be
celebrated Aug. 27, 9 p.m.,

music by Straight Ahead.
REMEMBER THE item
about Dana Stevens,
daughter of Evelyn Stevens
. . . the cerebral palsy
athlete who was going to
Denmark to compete in the
International C.P. Olym-
pics? . . . As a result, she re-
ceived many calls and con-
tributions ... . and her sup-
porters will be pleased to
know that she didn't let
them down . . . Dana came
home with two gold medals
. for • swimming and
Wheelchair race . . . a silver
and bronze for team and in-
dividual bocci ball.
The competitions were
held in Greve, just south-
west of Copenhagen.
