Pope Affirms
Support of Rights
for Palestinians

ROME — Pope John Paul
II Tuesday reasserted his _
support for "Palestinian
rights" in an address at St.
Peter's Square.
The Pope had indicated
an intention to go to Leba-
non to present his views in
an effort to end the current
conflict, but such a trip was
ruled out by Wednesday.
"Let us pray for the salva-
tion of Lebanon and for all
its communities that they
might live in concord and
collaboration," tive-Pope
said. "Let us also pray for
the Palestinian population,
that its suffering ends and
that its right to be recog-
nized is reached as it is just
for all the people of the
region."

Last night I had a dream
in which Israel lived in
peace, and the world was a
better place.

There was no question
that Israel could then turn
efforts and funds and ideals
towards benefits for man-
kind.

Research and experi-
ments, medical fields, cul-
-ture, better family lives and
communication could not
take first place.

Defense spending, unrest
and threat could subside.
Alas, I woke up to reality.
