SEATTLE (JTA) — A
public appeal to Seattle
Jews for cash contributions
to save Seattle's debt-
threatened Jewish Com-
munity Center produced a
needed $1.5 million in a
10-day campaign to raise
enough money to pay off
interest and principal on a
$4 million bank loan and
save the center from de-
fault, a Seattle Jewish Fed-
eration official reported.
The $4 million was raised in
addition to the regular fed-
eration campaign.
Murray Shiff, federation
executive director, said that
as of the 10th day before the
May 16 deadline for total
repayment, $2.5 million
had been contributed in the
public campaign.
In the final campaign, led
by two former federation
presidents, Samuel Stroum
and Martin Rind, the ex-
traordinary campaign
ended with .total cash con-
tributions of $4,070,000
making possible complete
repayment of the debt.

West Point Grad

Lyle J. Kellman of
Livonia will graduate from
the U.S. Military Academy
at West Point this spring.
He is one of 36 Jewish
men and women graduating
this year from the army, air
force, navy and merchant
marine academies.

Egypt is raising the price of
oil it sells to Israel by 50-60
cents a barrel. Light top
grade oil will cost $32.60.

Rosender to Be Honored
at Oakland Century Event

Maurice Rosender will be
honored at Oakland Cen-
tury Lodge's Israel Bond
tribute dinner 7:30 p.m.
June 29, with cocktails at 7.
At the dinner, to be held
at Adat Shalom Synagogue,
Rosender will be the reci-
pient of Israel Bonds' Lion of
Judah Award, "in apprecia-
tion of his leadership and
active participation in the
Israel Bond program to
bring economic indepen-
dence to Israel."
Rosender has been a
member of Bnai Brith for 37
years and a member of Oak-
land Century Lodge for 15.
He served three terms as
vice president of the lodge
before becoming president
and has been chairman of
the lodge's Bnai Brith
Youth Services Appeal
since the inception of the
lodge, raising $250,000 for
this cause. Rosender
brought in 100 new mem-
bers and $10,000 in dues
during one year, the first
time in the 137-year history
of Bnai Brith that a member
had achieved such a record.
In 1974, he was elected
to the Bnai Brith Hall of
Fame for bringing in a
total of 147 members, and
he now has to his credit
268 members.
Rosender has served as
the lodge's Israel Bond
chairman and as Israel
Bond co-chairman of the
Metropolitan Detroit Bnai
Brith Council.
He also has participated
in fund raising for the
United Jewish Appeal, City
of Hope, ORT and Adat

A former co-owner of De-
troit Allied Paper Co., now
semi-retired, Rosender is a
consultant for the Builders
Association of Southeastern
Michigan.
A native of Poland, he
holds a master's degree
in business administra-
tion from Wayne State
University. He has been
married to former Belle
Epstein for 48 years; they
have two children and
eight grandchildren.
Rosender is a callig-
rapher, and has inscribed
scrolls, citations, and con-
firmation certificates for
Adat Shalom since the con-
gregation's inception.
A tribute committee is
now in formation. Dinner
co-chairmen are Ralph Mil-
ler and Nathan Rubenstein.
Lodge president is Dr. How-
ard Dubin.
