The Best of Everything)

(Continued on Page 33)
Broadway or Greenwich
Village atmosphere . . . It
can now be termed a
delicatessen-restaurant .. .
and with so much more than
just a good corned beef
sandwich . . . (quiches, fresh
fruit salads, omelets — try
the broccoli and cheese,
etc.).
It even has a soup (all are
homerdade) with a name
that could turn some people
off but is delicious .. . Bet
you've never heard of Broc-
coli a0 Tuna Soup .. .
People rave about the Man-
hattan Clam Chowder on
Fridays . . . With a name
like that it would be a
natural as an everyday fea-
ture at the New Yorkish

About the corned beef
sandwich I had recently
. .. It was so unbelievably
different from the first
one ... The Lefkofsky
meat is tasty, juicy and
fully sliced (obviously
done on a new slicer) ...
served on good Jewish
rye bread from Mertz
Bakery ... No skimping
and -presented with a new
dill and piece of can-
taloupe.

My waiter, Larry McLan-
sc -1, is indicative of the serv-
ice at Backstage Deli . . . ef-
ficient, courteous, smiling
and there when you need
assistance.
From the plain, unassum-
ing exterior you wouldn't
recognize the interior of
Backstage Deli . . . with its
theatrical posters, street
signs, spotlight (naturally),
whirling fans, fresh hang-
ing plants, fresh flowers on
checkered table cloths .. .
and the kind of cash register
you'd expect to see in the
New York of yesteryears.
The only thing it has in
common with the former
Paradiso is the locale.

Backstage Deli is open
seven days a week . . . 10
a.m. to 4 a.m.. . . with free
parking or valet parking
. .. both in private lots on
opposite sides adjoining
the building.

And there's also the Foot-
lights Lounge . . . 11 to 2
a.m. Monday-Saturday and
12-2 a.m. Sunday . . . If you
don't think you're in a
Greenwich Village -New
York spot, it's only because
the prices are so much
lower.
Same for the deli . . . A
corned beef sandwich at
Backstage is almost twice
the price in New York .. .
and by far much better here.
NEW OWNERS of the
Clock on Southfield and 10
Mile Rd. are Jimmy and
Camile Stabile and Tom
and Colleen Knight . . .
They took over about a
month ago . . . and are res-
taurant people . . . with
emphasis on rejuvenating
what used to
be a fine operation at one
time . . . Cleanliness is a big
thing . . . plus quality and
price . . . like all-you-can-
eat fried chicken dinner
$2.99 . . . (all-you-can-eat
specials are 24 hours).
Tom used to own the very
popular Biffs on W. Six
Mile and Schaefer . . . and
helped open the Rascal
House on 10 Mile and
Southfield, now site of Gol-
den Mushroom.
