CANTOR TIBOR KELEN

in celebration of the syna-
gogue's 70th anniversary.
Born in Hungary, Cantor
Kelen studied music at the
Bela Bartok Conservatory.
From 1959 to 1965 he ap-
peared in performances
with the Hungarian State
Opera. Between 1965 and
1967 he performed with the
Klagenfurt and Igolstadt
Opera Companies.
Cantor Kelen emigrated
to Canada in 1967 and
served Bnei Israel Beth
David Synagogue in To-
ronto for six years. During
that time he sang with the
Toronto Symphony and the
National Arts Centre.
In 1969, the New York
City Opera presented
him with the Morton
Baum Award "as the
year's best tenor." He
currently is cantor at
Temple Beth El,
Cedarhurst, N.Y.
Appearing with Cantor
Kelen will be Cantor
Samuel Greenbaum of
Cong. Beth Shalom, Cantor
Chaim Najman of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek and Cantor
Max Shimansky of Cong.
Beth Achim. Cantor Louis
Klein of Bnai Moshe is the
host cantor.
The Bnai Moshe Sister-
hood Choral Group also will
appear. Daniel Braude, di-
rector of the congregation's
men's choir, will be the
guest conductor.
Chairman of the 1982
concert committee is Rena
Tobes. The concert is pre-
sented under the auspices of
the Bnai Moshe Cultural
Committee, chaired by
Ronna Rosenbaum.
The community is invited

Music Festival at Beth El

"Regeneration," a new
musical work by Dr.
Michael Isaacson will be
performed at the 28th an-
nual Hebrew Music Festi-
val of Temple Beth El at
8:30 p.m. today.
The performance will fea-
ture the Fraser High School
Choir, under the direction of
Dr. Melvin Wasserman, and
new anthems and responses
by the Temple Beth El
Choirs and Chorale, di-
rected by Maime Tickton.
Prof. Jason H. Tickton,
music director and organist
for the temple, coordinated
the festival.

School of Music. He has
written music for feature

shows, has composed two
Shabat evening services,
a wedding service and
choral - instrumental
music.

Psychologist Dr. Gait
Parker will discuss "Grow-
ing Professionally Without
Sacrificing Your Personal
Life" at the Birmingham
Temple 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Dr. Parker is a licensed
psychologist and is featured
on WXYZ's radio program
titled "Ask the Psychol-
ogist." In addition, she ap-
pears on the weekly seg-
ment of Channel 7 News ti-
tled "Reach-Out" in which
aspects of human relation-
ships are explored.
