Conservative
Fund for Israel

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
The Msorati (Conservative)
movement in Israel has an-
nounced plans to establish
an Israeli foundation to
raise $1 million per year.
The funds will be used to
train Israeli rabbis and
teachers, establish a kibutz
in the Galilee and to trans-
late works of Conservative
thought into Hebrew.

Seminary Cites Langwalds

Philip Langwald, second from left, and his wife,
Gladys, were honored by the Jewish Theological Sem-
inary of America at the seminary's recent convoca-
tion dinner in Florida. Presenting the Langwalds with
a special citation is Dr. Gerson D. Cohen, center,
chancellor of the seminary. With them are, from left:
Vice Chancellor Yaakov G. Rosenberg of the semi-
nary and Rabbi Efry Spectre, right, spiritual leader of
Adat Shalom Synagogue, where the Langwalds are
active members. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Langwald were
honored "in recognition of their establishment of the
Shelby Marvin Langwald Scholarship at the semi-
nary in memory of their son." The scholarship is
designated to provide for the tuition and living costs
of a needy student from Israel at the seminary in New
York.

First Woman President
Elected at Temple Israel

Shirley L. Fink of Bloom-
field Hills has been elected
the 20th president of Tem-
ple Israel, the first woman
in the congregation's 41-
year history to hold that
post.
A member of the temple's
board of trustees for seven
years, Mrs. Fink has served
as secretary and a vice
president of the congrega-
tion and been on the sister-
hood board for the last 20
years.
One of 13 students in the
Temple Israel High School's
first graduating class in
1942, Mrs. Fink assumes
the reins of one of the
largest Reform congrega-
tions in the country, with a
membership of over 1800
families.
She was graduated
from Wayne State Uni-
versity with a Bachelor of
Music degree in piano.
She was a student of Eve-
lyn Gurvitch and Robert
Casadesus.
Active in a variety of
communal causes and in
musical circles, Mrs. Fink is
chairman of the Friends of
the Center Symphony Or-
chestra and is the recipient
of the Woman of Valor
Award from State of Israel
Bonds.

SHIRLEY FINK

Together with her hus-
band, Nate, she also was the
winner of the Israel Bond
Prime Minister's medal.
Elected to serve with her
were: James L. Jonas, June
Kamil, Frederic I. Keywell
and Charles H. Tobias, vice
presidents; Linda Brodsky,
secretary; and Raymond
Kahrnoff, treasurer.
Named to the board of
trustees were: Marilyn Be-
lin, Joel C. Piell, Milton B.
Ressler, Sidney R. Rubin,
Norton Stern, Harold S. To-
bias, Judy Trepeck and
Judy Zatkin, all for three-
year terms, and Norman
Bernstein, one year.

Rabbi Max Weine to Speak
at Shaarey Zedek Event

Rabbi Max Weine, head of
the Conservative Beth Din
and a member of the faculty
of the Midrasha College of
Jewish Studies, will speak
at the showing of the film "I
Love You Rosa" 8 p.m. Sun-
day at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek. The community is
invited. There is no admis-
sion charge.
Rabbi Weine will speak
before the program giving
some background on Jewish
law.
Mrs. Walter Field and I.
Murray Jacobs are co-

chairmen of the Cultural
Commission. Walter L.
Field is honorary chairman.
Art work for the presenta-
tion of the program was
done by Linda Zalla. Drama
Committee members in-
clude Dorothy S. Kripke
and Rita Rifkin. Phyllis
Zieve Friedman is chair-
man of the drama division of
the cultural commission.

Some 550,000 American
Jews and 500,000 Russian
Jews served in their coun-
tries' military forces durhg
World War II.
