Coal-Fired Unit
Begins Operating
HADERA (JNI) — The
electric corppration's new
power station has suc-
cessfully completed its first
week of coal-fired electricity
generating from the first of
its 4,350-megawatt units.
The unit reached full
capacity with no visible
smoke emitted from its
chimney and immediately
began saving $200,000 a
day, after initial invest-
ment for the changeover.
By the end of 1983, when
all four units will be work-
ing, annual savings will
total $750 million. By 1995,
the corporation will use
only 500,000 tons of fuel oil
annually, down from 3.5
million tons now.
